Superintendent's Message 10-31-23
-From The Desk of the Superintendent-
Dear ALCS families,
Happy Halloween!
It was a wonderful day in our schools as students and staff celebrated Halloween with parades, parties and dress up fun. I love to see the excitement on our students’ faces (staff, too). I hope all of you have a great evening and the rain (and snow) holds out for Trick-or-Treating. Be safe and have fun.
Reminder, there is no school tomorrow! Our staff will be participating in a Professional Development Day. It’s a day to learn, grow and collaborate.
Good luck to our varsity volleyball team as they compete in the Regional Semifinals against South on Thursday, Nov. 2 at Norwalk High School. The match is at 6 p.m. Our varsity football team advanced to the second round of the playoffs and will travel to Anthony Wayne High School (Toledo area) this Friday, Nov. 3. Game is at 7 p.m.
The ALHS Math Team is heading to Columbus on Nov. 4 to compete alongside some of the other top math students in the State on a grueling individual written competition, a challenging team competition in which they will work in groups of four with kids from other schools, and a timed ciphering competition where they have to work quickly on challenging problems.
If music is your thing, our Avon Lake High School Chorale will perform a fall concert on Thursday, Nov. 2 at 7:30 p.m. at the Dr. Daniel B. Ross Performing Arts Center. Admission is $5.
Did you graduate from ALHS? We want to hear from you and keep you informed regarding the happenings within your alma mater and have created an Alumni Directory. We encourage all alumni to complete the form on the high school’s website, or click here.
We continue to spread the word regarding our Building ALegacy project. For those who have missed any of the information, please click here for more details and the facts regarding Issue 11. If you have any questions regarding our school district or Issue 11, please reach out to me.
At our Building ALegacy community forums and Q&As, we have been asked about safety, security, and educational needs in new construction versus older facilities. Our third informational Building ALegacy video answers those questions. To view the video, click here.
Nov. 7 is Election Day. If you are unsure of your polling location, what to bring to the polls, or voting hours, please go to the Lorain County Board of Elections website, click here.
Thank you again for your continued support of our schools.
#ALexcellence to ALite!
Sincerely,
Joelle Magyar

"The President's Own" United States Marine Band members visit ALHS
Members of the Avon Lake High School Concert and Symphonic bands were treated to a special visit from two members of "The President's Own" United States Marine Band today (Oct. 31). The Marine Band is currently on tour and recently stopped at Severance Hall in Cleveland. As part of the band's educational outreach program, members visit schools throughout the country. Avon Lake was fortunate to be selected and the students learned various breathing and sight-reading techniques, in addition to having the Marine Band guests practice alongside the students. Thank you Joshua Brunger, ALHS band director, for bringing this amazing opportunity to our student musicians.
