Nguyện xin Thiên Chúa, qua lời bầu cử của Mẹ Maria, ban cho Tân Ban Thường Vụ được nhiều hồng ân, niềm vui, và bình an trong phục vụ.

Kính thưa quý Cha Tuyên Úy, quý Trợ Úy, quý Trợ Tá và quý Huynh Trưởng các cấp:

Chúng con xin thay mặt Ban Chấp Hành Trung Ương, gửi lời tri ân đến từng thành viên trong Hội Đồng Trung Ương đã tín nhiệm, tin tưởng, trao trọng trách lãnh đạo Phong Trào trong bốn năm kế tiếp cho chúng con. Chúng con xin tạ ơn Chúa qua những lời cầu nguyện, cùng những lời chúc mừng đầy tình thương mà quý Cha, quý Thầy, quý Sơ, quý Trợ Tá và quý Trưởng đã gởi đến chúng con trong những ngày qua. Chúng con cũng xin ghi nhớ tất cả những công lao và hy sinh của các anh chị em trong các Ban Chấp Hành Trung Ương tiền nhiệm, đã xây dựng Phong Trào. Nhờ ơn Chúa, chúng con xin hứa tiếp tục duy trì những truyền thống tốt đẹp và cùng với tân Ban Chấp Hành thi hành những công việc được trao phó theo đúng đường lối của Phong Trào Thiếu Nhi Thánh Thể.

Với Chúa Giêsu Thánh Thể là trung tâm điểm của mọi sinh hoạt, tất cả các chương trình dự định cho bốn năm tới sẽ tập trung vào hai mục đích chính của Phong Trao Thiếu Nhi Thánh Thể Việt Nam tại Hoa Kỳ (PT/TNTT/VN/HK) đó là: 1) đào tạo thanh thiếu niên trở thành những người Kitô hữu hoàn hảo và 2) những công dân tốt góp phần xây dựng xã hội. Như Cha FX Gautrelet, SJ, đã từng nói: Để có thể đạt được hai mục đích trên, chúng ta “hãy trở thành những nhà truyền giáo bằng cách cầu nguyện và dâng hiến ngày sống của ta mỗi ngày hợp với Chúa Giêsu Kitô trong bí tích Thánh Thể”.

Do đó, ngoài những công việc hành chánh thường xuyên của Ban Chấp Hành Trung Ương (BCHTU) như hoàn chỉnh hệ thống thành viên và lợi ích tham gia, sổ sách rõ ràng, thống nhất những mẫu đơn và các thủ tục hành chánh dưới Khối Quản Trị, Nghiên Huấn, và v.v…, BCHTU sẽ thực hiện chiến dịch Sống Ngày Thánh Thể phù hợp với giới trẻ thời nay, cũng như lên kế hoạch giúp đạt được mục tiêu 100% thành viên trong Phong Trào sống ngày Thánh Thể mỗi ngày. Để thành công, chiến dịch này phải giúp các thành viên cảm nghiệm được sự biến đổi của trái tim, sống đạo một cách thực tế theo lứa tuổi hoặc ngành, và đáp ứng nhu cầu văn hóa của giới trẻ ngày nay.

Ngoài ra, để trở thành những người truyền giáo, Phong Trào Thiếu Nhi Thánh Thể cần có những chương trình giúp các thành viên tham gia thêm những sinh hoạt truyền giáo nơi cộng đồng. Điều này phù hợp với định hướng hiện tại của Hội Đồng Lãnh Đạo Toàn Quốc, trong sự thay đổi gần đây như ở câu cuối của bài hát Thiếu Nhi Tân Hành Ca “… Tuổi trẻ Việt Nam đem Chúa cho giới trẻ mọi nơi”. Đây cũng là điều mong muốn của Đức Thánh Cha Phanxicô và Hội Đồng Giám Mục Công Giáo Hoa Kỳ. Trong một buổi tiếp kiến đặc biệt, Đức Giáo Hoàng Phanxicô đã nói với giới trẻ về việc rao giảng Tin Mừng: “Go out, head for the periphery”, nhất là những nơi mà con cái Chúa đang bị gạt ra ngoài lề, đang chịu đau khổ, bị bỏ rơi, bị lạm dụng…

Qua những chiến dịch bác ái như thế tại các địa phương, Phong Trào Thiếu Nhi Thánh Thể sẽ giúp các thanh thiếu nhi/niên chưa từng tham gia vào những sinh hoạt giới trẻ, hoặc gọi mời các bạn trẻ về lại với các sinh hoạt tại cộng đoàn giáo xứ, ngõ hầu đem họ đến gần với Chúa hơn. Thêm vào đó, chúng ta có thêm cơ hội để giới thiệu PT/TNTT đến với các sắc dân, sắc tộc chưa có TNTT. Nơi xã hội, có thể đây là những công việc vận động cho sự tự do tôn giáo, chống phá thai, hoặc những việc bác ái giúp người nghèo, tù tội, ốm đau, v.v… Tại nước ngoài, đây là những công việc thiện nguyện giúp những nơi nghèo khó đang cần sự trợ giúp về chăm sóc y tế, tài chánh, giáo dục, v.v…

Để có thể đạt được những dự án nêu trên, chúng con xin mời gọi tất cả quý thành viên trong Phong Trào Thiếu Nhi Thánh Thể, tiếp tục cầu nguyện cho chúng con, cho BCHTU và tham gia cộng tác chặt chẽ với các sinh hoạt trong những năm tới đây. Chúng con sẵn sàng đón nhận và lắng nghe những ý kiến đóng góp của tất cả quý thành viên để giúp thăng tiến Phong Trào. Dearest Chaplains, Chaplain Assistants and Youth Leaders of all ranks:

On behalf of the National Executive Committee, we are grateful for the National Assembly for having faith and trust in the newly elected National Executive Committee to lead the Movement in the next four years. We thank God for the numerous good wishes and prayers that we have received over the last several weeks from everyone, and for that, we are eternally grateful. We’re also thankful for the sacrifices and leadership of those in previous National Executive Committees in building our Movement, your hard work laid the foundation so that the next generation can continue the legacy, and with God’s grace, we will take it to new heights in evangelization.

With Jesus in the Eucharist as the center of all activities, our initiatives for the next four years will revolve around our two overarching missions, which are; 1) to train youth to become good Christians and 2) good citizens in spreading the Good News. As Father Francis Xavior Gautrelet said in his famous exhortation prior to the creation of the Apostleship of Prayer, now, the Pope’s Worldwide Prayer Network, to accomplish the above missions, we must become “missionaries through prayers and daily offering in union with Jesus in the Eucharist”.

As such, beside the routine administrative functions of the National Executive Committee, such as streamlining the membership database, transparency in accounting, standardizing our training processes, benefits to members, and much more, one of the key roles of the National Executive Committee is to push for a national initiative where by 100% members of our Movement make effort and successfully live the Eucharistic day each day according to their current stage of faith formation. This initiative must help members experience a conversion of the heart, be practical and must meet the cultural needs of the youth today.

In addition, to be missionaries, there must be initiatives to push our members out to the community. This is consistent with the current direction of the National Leadership Council in their recent change to our Movement's Anthem, “Tuổi trẻ Việt Nam, đem Chúa cho giới trẻ mọi nơi”. This is also the wishes of our Holy Father and the United States Conference of Catholic Bishop. The Pope said to the youth in evangelizing, “go out, head for the periphery”, places where God’s children are being marginalized.

Locally, these may be initiatives where we can reach youth who are not involved in any youth ministry and are spiritually lost within the parish. In the community, we may provide opportunities to introduce the VEYM to other parishes and ethnicities to form their own EYM. At the national level, these may be advocacy works to promote religious freedom, fight against abortion, or other social justice effort in support of our Catholic morals and values. Internationally, these initiatives may be in the form of medical missions or charity works focusing on the seven corporal works of mercy.

To achieve these objectives, the National Executive Committee invites you, at all levels of leadership to continue to pray for us and to be involved in the important works that we do to spread the Good News. We invite your contribution and we’re open to listening and to receiving your valuable constructive feedback to promote our Movement. Parallel to that notion, the National Executive Committee will also establish Ad Hoc advisory committees, these are specialists in their field (medical, legal, financial, education, etc…) and their main role is to advise and assist the National Executive Committee in making informed decisions on the management of our Movement. We look forward to your participation and feedback from the survey as we outline our next 4 year agenda. This is our Movement and all of us are charged with the responsibility to evangelize, and to be successful, we must do it together.

We invite you to take a moment to pray for our Universal Church, our beloved country Vietnam and our Movement so that we may overcome all adversaries. May Jesus Christ in the Eucharist, through the intercession of Our Lady of La Vang and the Vietnamese Martyrs bless you and keep you safe under His protection.

Chiếu theo trách nhiệm và quyền hạn do Nội Quy điều 13.6 của Phong Trào Thiếu Nhi Thánh Thể Việt Nam tại Hoa Kỳ, quy định về việc bổ nhiệm trưởng Ban Trợ Tá, Linh mục Phanxicô Xaviê Nguyễn Thanh Bình, S.V.D., Chủ Tịch Hội Đồng Lãnh Đạo Toàn Quốc của Phong Trào Thiếu Nhi Thánh Thể Việt Nam tại Hoa Kỳ đã bổ nhiệm:

Trợ Tá Phêrô Vũ Văn Thiết là Trưởng Ban Trợ Tá thuộc Hội Đồng Trung Ương nhiệm kỳ 2018-2022. Trợ Tá Thiết đang sinh hoạt tại Đoàn Andrê Dũng Lạc - Silver Spring, MD.

Nguyện xin Thiên Chúa ban ơn khôn ngoan và đạo đức để Trợ Tá Vũ Văn Thiết được trung thành với ơn gọi và thăng tiến trong sứ vụ mới.

Sau nhiều ngày mong chờ, Hội Nghị Lãnh Đạo Joshua đã diễn ra tốt đẹp. Hơn 120 Huynh Trưởng và Huấn Luyện Viên từ khắp mọi nơi trên Hoa Kỳ và Canada đã cùng nhau tụ họp tại Woodland Christian Camp & Retreat Center vào chiều thứ Năm, ngày 26 tháng 7 năm 2018. Có thực mới vực được đạo, việc đầu tiên mọi người đều làm, sau khi check-in, chính là dùng bữa tối cùng nhau, tạo ra cơ hội đầu tiên để các tham dự viên gặp gỡ và làm quen với nhau trước giờ khai mạc Hội Nghị. Không khí của Giôsuê dâng lên cao thông qua những video vừa vui nhộn vừa ý nghĩa về sinh hoạt Thiếu Nhi Thánh Thể trực thuộc tám Miền Hoa Kỳ. Sau những trận cười vui vẻ, tất cả lắng đọng tâm hồn qua Thánh Lễ khai mạc do cha Don Bosco Nguyễn Trí -- Tuyên Úy Miền Đông Nam làm chủ tế, cùng cha Tổng Tuyên Úy và các cha Tuyên Úy Miền đồng tế.

Sang ngày thứ sáu, các tham dự viên được nghe cha Phanxicô Xaviê Nguyễn Thanh Bình giới thiệu về tương lai và đường hướng của Phong Trào Thiếu Nhi Thánh Thể Việt Nam tại Hoa Kỳ, với mong muốn có thể giới thiệu đường hướng của Phong Trào với những người bạn Công Giáo thuộc sắc dân khác. Các tham dự viên cũng có cơ hội chia sẻ suy nghĩ, những mối âu lo và gợi ý của họ trong chủ đề này. Sau giờ chia sẻ, tất cả mọi người cùng nhau hiệp dâng Thánh Lễ với chủ tế là Đức Giám Mục Atlanta -- Linh Mục Joel M. Konzen, S.M. Trong bài giảng, Đức Giám Mục cũng chia sẻ về những công tác với giới trẻ Ngài đã làm trong cuộc đời Linh Mục. Sau thánh lễ là buổi chia sẻ về việc tu chính Nội Quy. Các tham dự viên cũng có cơ hội nêu lên khúc mắc của mình lên ban Tu Chính. Chiều thứ sáu cũng chính là lúc diễn ra cuộc thi chèo thuyền giữa các Miền. Tinh thần mọi người lại thêm hăng hái khi tập trung cổ vũ cho các người đại diện của Miền thi đua. Kết quả lại có những Miền hợp tác với nhau và giành chiến thắng ngoạn mục, cho thấy tuy PT/TNTT/VN/HK có phân chia theo Miền thì tất cả mọi người chúng ta đều là một gia đình chung. Vào buổi tối, các tham dự viên chia nhau tham dự những buổi workshop đặc biệt với những chủ đề khác nhau do HLV Thanh Tâm, HLV Ani và HLV Evan, và Br. Rufino điều hành. Đến đêm mọi người lại có món nui để lót dạ, làm thoả mãn cơn thèm đồ ăn Việt Nam đang nhen nhóm trong lòng mọi người hôm đó.

Linh Mục Frederick Fornos, giám đốc Phong Trào Thiếu Nhi Thánh Thể thế giới cũng đến thăm và chia sẻ về hệ thống Cầu Nguyện của Đức Giáo Hoàng với thành viên Ban Chấp Hành các cấp vào ngày thứ Bảy. Nối tiếp là những buổi chia sẻ của Khối Quản Trị - đặc biệt là buổi giới thiệu về những kế hoạch về hệ thống mạng điện tử đang được các thành viên trong nhóm IT thiết kế và lên chương trình, bao gồm có hệ thống cloud, website, database và VEYM app. Có thể nhận thấy được sự hào hứng của các tham dự viên trước những thành quả mà nhóm IT đã thực hiện được, cùng sự mong đợi cho những kế hoạch đang được ấp ủ sớm thành hình thành trái. Sau đó, các Huynh Trưởng và Huấn Luyện Viên lại được dịp suy tư về việc đào tạo các em tại đoàn khi ban Nghiên Huấn Trung Ương chia sẻ những thông tin hữu ích về Weekly Gospel và kết quả National Benchmark Exam vừa qua. Chiều cùng ngày, tất cả mọi người đã có một buổi rước Đức Mẹ và cầu nguyện vô cùng trang nghiêm cho hòa bình tại quê hương Việt Nam của chúng ta. "Dù con có sống ở bất kì nơi nào trên thế giới, con vẫn có một tổ quốc, chính là nước Việt Nam."

“Một, hai, ba… vô” chính là câu nói yêu chuộng nhất vào đêm thứ Bảy. Ban Ẩm Thực đã chuẩn bị những món ăn nhẹ cùng thức uống thật ngon, hỗ trợ cho việc làm quen và trò chuyện với nhau của các tham dự viên. Tối đó cũng là đêm tri ân và nhìn nhận những người đã luôn thầm lặng làm việc ngày đêm để giúp PT/TNTT/VN/HK ngày một phát triển hơn. Từ những anh chị đã sinh hoạt trong Thiếu Nhi 30-40 năm về trước, đến những Huynh Trưởng trẻ nhưng vô cùng tài năng đã đóng góp không ít cho Phong Trào. Cuộc vui vẫn chưa ngừng ở đó. Buổi bowling gây quỹ đã nhận được sự hưởng ứng của rất nhiều anh chị em Huynh Trưởng 8 Miền. Kết quả, chúng ta đã gây quỹ được $1000, và Miền Nam dành được quyền chỉ định tổ chức thiện nguyện để đóng góp số tiền này vào khi Tr. Khánh Dư và Tr. Hạnh đều từ Miền Nam đã giành chiến thắng với số điểm cao nhất. Toàn bộ số tiền gây quỹ đã được quyết định trao tặng cho quỹ "Cho Em Nụ Cười" của Frere Phong.

Ngày cuối cùng của Hội Nghị bắt đầu cùng buổi thảo luận do anh cựu Phó Chủ Tịch Nghiên Huấn HLV Hoàng Công Thái Dương điều hành. Các huynh trưởng đã nêu lên ý kiến cùng chia sẻ những khó khăn về việc thúc đẩy các huynh trưởng đoàn đi tham dự các trại huấn luyện cấp 2, 3. Sau buổi thảo luận đầy ý nghĩa, tất cả mọi người cùng lắng đọng tâm hồn để tham dự thánh lễ bế mạc Hội Nghị Joshua. Sau cùng là nghi thức tuyên hứa và ra mắt Tân Ban Chấp Hành Trung Ương, nhiệm kì 2018-2022. Nguyện xin hồng ân Thiên Chúa luôn đổ tràn trên các anh chị đã can đảm đón nhận sứ vụ mới, cùng xin Chúa Thánh Thần luôn kề cạnh các anh chị để họ có thể lãnh đạo và dẫn dắt Phong Trào Thiếu Nhi Thánh Thể Việt Nam tại Hoa Kỳ ngày càng phát triển và tốt đẹp theo như những gì Thiên Chúa muốn.

Bốn ngày hội nghị trôi qua thật nhanh, tưởng chừng mới bắt đầu mà đã phải nói chia tay. Hy vọng PT/TNTT/VN/HK sẽ có thêm những Hội Nghị Giôsuê trong tương lai để tạo cơ hội cho các Đoàn TNTT toàn quốc có một diễn đàn để liên kết chặt chẽ hơn với BCHTU và cùng nhau phát triển Phong Trào trong thời đại ngày nay... Xa cách nhau, mình nhớ nhau hoài... Xin chúng ta luôn tiếp tục cầu nguyện cho nhau để chúng ta luôn noi gương theo vị lãnh đạo tối cao, là Chúa Giêsu Thánh Thể.

After a lengthy period of excited anticipation, Joshua Congress has finished with excellence and many graces. Over 100 Youth Leaders and Youth Leader Trainers from all over the United States and Canada gathered at Woodland Christian Camp and Retreat Center beginning on Thursday, July 26. Following check-in, the participants enjoyed each other’s company over a warm dinner. This was an opportunity for fraternal conversation and a warm welcome to all the guests after long travel. The atmosphere was filled with hearty laughter and booming conversation, as videos of each of the 8 Region’s activities played on the screen—videos as meaningful as they were dynamic! Capturing the excitement, the Congress was officially opened with the Holy Mass, with Reverend Don Bosco Nguyễn Trí, Chaplain for the Southeast Region, as main celebrant. He was concelebrated with our General Chaplain and Regional Chaplains.

On Friday morning, the participants had their 1st round of discussion: a presentation over the future direction of VEYM by our own General Chaplain, Reverend Father Francis Xavier Nguyễn Thanh Bình, S.V.D. Father Bình presented a great desire to evangelize and share our Movement to young people of other ethnicity in America! Some shared their ideas regarding this new direction, as well as their worries. Together, many were excited about this topic. Following, the participants celebrated the Eucharistic feast with Most Reverend Joel M. Konzen, S.M., Auxiliary Bishop of Atlanta, presiding. In his homily, bishop shared about his own ministry with the youth and how it has shaped his priesthood. Afterwards, participants entered into their 2nd discussion from the Bylaw Amendment Committee. There was lively discussion regarding the proposed updates, as well as concerns and suggestions to the committee. Afterwards, the Canoe Race took place. It was a lovely time to share and build fraternal bonds through healthy competition. The race was a primary example of the strong unity VEYM has between the Regions—we are one family! Following was several engaging and informative workshops prepared and presented by several Youth Leader Trainers and an invited guest, Brother Rufino. At night, the participants shared a hot bowl of pasta “nui” to satiate any physical grumblings—a terrific end to a terrific day.

Father Frederick Fornos, S.J., International Director of the Pope’s Worldwide Prayer Network also visited and presented the on the international scope and systematic operations of the organization to the Congress. Following was a presentation over the Administrative Affairs of VEYM-USA. Most excitingly was a presentation by the IT section who are working diligently and tirelessly on a Cloud system, website updates, and a VEYM app! It was apparent that many participants were excited over the technological advancements and proposals of the IT department. Afterwards, the participants heard an informative and highly beneficial presentation over Academic Affairs: National Benchmark results and Weekly Gospel updates. The presentation will surely help each Local Chapter’s Executive Committees to bring home some new information that will help in the better formation of its members. The apex of the day would surely be the Marian Procession and prayer for our home country of Vietnam. Prayers for peace, prosperity, and human rights.

Saturday night was filled with laughter and dynamic conversations! Many Youth Leaders/Trainers shared about their journey with VEYM, some have contributed, 30-40 years in helping to build the Movement. Others, although they are still young, are using their God-given talents to help and support the Movement. Regardless, both groups share the same desire and goal of making VEYM better and better, all for the glory of God. Other highlight of the night was “Bowling for Charity.” All in all, the participants raised $1000. Champions that night were Tr. Khánh Dư and Hạnh from the Southern Region! As winners, they chose to give the funds to Frere Phong’s charity: “Cho Em Một Nụ Cười.”

The last day of the Congress started with a lively and meaningful discussion over increasing attendance at Youth Leader Training Camps - Level 2 and 3, moderated by the National President-elect Hoàng Công Thái Dương. Afterward was the Closing Mass and Rite of Profession for the newly elected National Executive Committee, term 2018-2022. May Almighty God pour down abundant graces and blessings upon our National Executive Committee so that they have sufficient wisdom, strength, and diligence to work for the glory of God through the advancement of the Movement.

The four days of the Congress progressed at a surprising rate. By the end of it, the bonds formed and shared were strengthened by one passion for VEYM, one love for Christ, and one union in Him. The beautiful and meaningful atmosphere of the Congress were, in part, due to the open discussions in which all ideas and comments were heard and acknowledged. Let us cheer to VEYM to grow even more and even faster. And, in the future there will be other National Congresses to bring together VEYM across the nation under one roof, to forge new bonds, and strengthen old ones. May we all follow in the footsteps of our ideal, Jesus Christ in the Eucharist.

At Hội Nghị Giôsuê 3, there were a number of wonderful breakout sessions that took place. In particular, the session: "Inclusion: Working with Youth with Special Needs" that was given by HLV Trung Cấp Nguyễn Thanh Tâm was really moving. Tr. Tâm really pressed this one point: inclusion rather than alienation. The message of inclusion for these youth with special needs extended beyond just the children in our ministry, but to the youth leaders as well. Some of us don't always feel comfortable in our own skin to reveal our insecurities and knowing this we are called to welcome all children of Christ regardless of our imperfections. We are grateful of her passion in bringing Christ in all parts of our ministry.

Faith is a theological virtue that is infused into each soul at Baptism. At Joshua Congress 2018, one of the breakout sessions, “Faith Seeking Understanding,” sought to model St. Anselm’s motto - fides quaerens intellectum. Intellectual understanding cannot replace faith, however, should lead one to the Truth that allows one to love God and do His will. This is an active faith that seeks a deeper knowledge and understanding of God. For we cannot love that which we do not know. The breakout session featured a panel of speakers - Rev. Ngô Đình Thông, C.Ss.R., HLV SC Đoàn Ani, and HLV SC Phạm Evan. The floor was open to allow those who were present to ask questions, about anything and everything. A few of the topics discussed included: how to read and interpret various Biblical texts; the validity of non-canonical texts such as the book of Enoch, which is an apocryphal book; and how to charitably welcome and minister to those in VEYM who are experiencing same-sex attraction.

I chose to attend this breakout session because I desired to understand what concerns our Huynh Trưởng nowadays and how to approach questions regarding our faith. It was a beautiful experience to be amidst Huynh Trưởng who truly desire to understand their faith not only for themselves, but to more fruitfully live out their faith and share it with those at their local chapters. Rev. Thông mentioned that our faith should not be satisfied with anything but the Truth. It was a wonderful reminder for us to not settle for anything less than God. If we ever come across a question that keeps lingering in our souls, we are called not to extinguish it, but to seek the understanding that sets our faith aflame. Though the session was limited to one and half hours, I believe the discussion and sharing was fruitful in that it provided various sources to cultivate our understanding of the faith. It was a sort of rest-stop for us to gather and share as we journey towards Heaven. This session reminds us all that we are not alone on this journey. We have Scripture, the Church and her teachings, the writings of the saints, and we have one another. As God has entrusted the treasure of Faith to each one of us, may we always protect it and grow upon it. In the words of St. Augustine, “Our hearts are restless, until they can find rest in You.” May we never tire in knowing and loving God.

With a background in music and an extensive experience in publishing, composing, multicultural liturgy, Brother Rufino Zaragoza, O.F.M. helped to explain and elucidate about the role of the choir, choirmaster, music in the liturgy, and liturgical songs and challenges in planning guide.

Before discussing the music in mass, he emphasized that it is essential to understand that the Liturgy, the Mass, in particular, is something precious and holy and cannot be mishandled! The rule and guideline of the church must be followed. Every effort must be made to ensure that the Christian people take part in liturgical celebrations “fully, consciously, and actively.”

At a Vietnamese mass, there is multi-generations present. On one spectrum, one generation favors the celebration be spoken entirely in Vietnamese and on the other end of the spectrum, a younger generation who attends Vietnamese mass who favor English. In planning the liturgy, there is a need to care for the assembly. It is a real challenge.

Brother Rufino reminds us "Mass is not something we do or prepare for God. It is what God and the church do for us. " Mass is not about the choir or the priest, it is about Jesus. It is wonderful to hear this familiar theme and truth at the Vietnamese Eucharist Youth Movement event.

Brother Rufino advises youth leaders who are involved with the choir as well as other ministers in liturgy to learn more about their important roles by reading the General Instruction of Roman Missal. Leaders need to continue to participate in liturgical instruction and formation. The topic of music liturgy in mass could not be covered in one hour. Brother Rufino recommended several books for those involved in music ministry for further study.

To conclude, liturgy is the “heart and center of the whole Christian life for the Church" (GIRM n16). As music ministers and youth ministers, let us with great joy “do everything for the glory of God .” (1 Cor 10:31)

The 41st Marian Days marked another meaningful pilgrimage for many Vietnamese Catholics who gathered to commemorate 30 years since the canonization of the 117 Vietnamese Martyrs. While the total number in attendance is still unknown, we know for sure that the number of the Vietnamese Eucharistic Youth Movement (VEYM) members at Marian Days continues to increase. Despite the high temperatures and summer heat of the Midwest, the VEYM mass was celebrated at Calvary Hill in order to accommodate the crowd. With the presence of our General Chaplain - Reverend Francis Xavier Nguyễn Thanh Bình, S.V.D. as the main celebrant, ten other priests were also in attendance, what a blessing to our Movement! Attending Marian Days for the first time, Most Reverend John Noonan of Orlando, FL was very impressed with how involved the VEYM members were, not to mention Most Reverend Thomas Nguyễn Thái Thành thanked VEYM members for their dedication to the Church as well as encouraged all young people to discern their calling to religious life as he mentioned his upcoming trip to Rome for his “Baby Bishop” meeting as well as his “honeymoon” for the past 7 months as Auxiliary Bishop of Orange, CA.
