- Very controversial topic
- Only 48% of the public aware of genetic technologies
- First discovered in the late 1960's
- Embryonic stem cell research banned in 2001 and lifted in 2008
Benefits
- Can eliminate the risk of birth defects
- Creating perfect humans
- Genes from plants with benefits can be added to other plants
- Genetically modified food could contribute towards solving world hunger
- Could help with vaccination for diseases like AIDS
Dangers
- Not 100% safe
- Loss of dignity
- Unethical/against religious beliefs
- Could result in diseases
- Choosing gender could result in imbalance of genders
