Family Bulletin for March 7, 2024
News for March 7, 2024
Welcome to trimester 3! The spring and change in trimester brings fun energy into the building. This week students met new teachers, found different spots at lunch, and started to learn the expectations of their new courses. We also have cheered on our sports teams as they venture into tournament time. This evening and tomorrow we will be showcasing students in the BSU club and the Asian culture show as they have performances – dancing, singing, and games! There are always reasons to be proud to be a Raider!

‼️🚨CONGRATULATIONS🚨‼️to 🤼♂️ Sophomore, Alyzabeth Hiler, 🤼♂️ who placed 3rd at the MSHSL Girls Wrestling State Tournament this past weekend at the Xcel Energy Center! We are so proud of you and how you represent Roseville!
Senior, Teddy McGuire, represented Roseville at the 🏊♂️ MSHSL Boys Swimming and Diving State Tournament 🏊♂️ this past weekend at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center. McGuire's time of 48.15 in the preliminaries of the 100-yard freestyle earned him 14th place and sent him to the finals. He finished with a time of 47.86, tied for 10th place. He also finished 22nd overall in the 100-yard backstroke. Congratulations to Teddy and Roseville Boys Swimming and Diving!
On Wednesday March 6th 2024, Roseville Area High Schools Architecture Engineering and Construction (ACE) team placed 2nd among a competitive pool of twin cities school and district ACE teams, including Edina High School, Apple Valley High School, Irondale High School, St. Paul Hub, North St. Paul Hub and Minneapolis Public Schools. Students were provided with several critical design parameters. First, students needed to construct a modern Olympic stadium worthy of hosting the 2028 summer games, while also ensuring that this infrastructure would stand the test of time and be accommodating to everyday community needs after the games end. Students were also encouraged to incorporate the culture and history of Minnesota. Overall, students worked hard to collaborate on their designs and learned a lot from their professional ACE mentors this year who are bringing in a lot of expertise and networking opportunities in their respective industries. Congratulations, Roseville ACE team!

MCA tests are designed to measure student learning towards the Minnesota Academic Standards. The results are one important piece of information that the district, schools and teachers use to monitor and improve instruction. By having all students take these tests, we get better information about how all students are doing. The test results also provide families with a snapshot of their student’s learning. Results will be available in the fall in Synergy ParentVue. Student results might also be used for course placement at a Minnesota State college or university after graduation or to qualify for Postsecondary Enrollment Options (PSEO) or College in the Schools program.

FAFSA ‘24-’25 Delays Update:
On Jan. 30, the U.S. Department of Education (US DOE) announced that colleges and universities will receive 2024-2025 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) applicant data beginning in the first half of March. Initially, US DOE had announced institutions and state agencies would begin to receive data by the end of January 2024.
This new timeline is up to six weeks later and will cause an additional delay for college-bound students and families to receive financial aid offers, which will likely occur in early to mid-April. Students will receive financial aid offers much later than anticipated, which compresses the timeframe that students and families can weigh options and make informed decisions with aid offer information.
We want to acknowledge the stress and anxiety that the current challenges are causing students and families, college access staff, as well as higher education institutions. US DOE is working to ensure that students and families receive all the financial aid they are eligible for.

Completing the FAFSA
The most important advice about completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is to READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY. Follow directions carefully as you complete your application; any errors will cause delays in processing or even the loss of financial assistance. See our helpful tips below.
You can complete the FAFSA:
- Online using FAFSA on the Web.
- Or, by completing a paper application. Download a PDF FAFSA.
- The FAFSA is also available in Spanish.
Be aware of financial aid application deadlines to not miss out on receiving student aid awards. Keep in mind that each school may have its own financial aid deadline as well.

Minnesota Dream Act Application Now Open!
The Minnesota Dream Act, the state's financial aid application for students with undocumented status, is now available for students to complete. College-bound students who plan to attend college or career school during the 2024-25 school year should complete the 2024-25 MN Dream Act. Like the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), the application must be completed each academic year that the student is enrolled in college.
Students who complete the MN Dream Act are eligible for state-based financial aid, including the Minnesota State Grant and North Star Promise Scholarship, if they meet state residency requirements. Students can also receive in-state resident tuition rates and privately funded financial aid at Minnesota public colleges and universities.

American Indian Scholars Program:
The new American Indian Scholars Program will provide a first-dollar full tuition and fee-free pathway to eligible undergraduate students.
Eligible students include Minnesota residents who are enrolled members or citizens of any federally recognized tribe or Canadian First Nation to attend a Minnesota State institution or the University of Minnesota. In addition, students who are not eligible for resident tuition, but are enrolled members or citizens of a Minnesota Tribal Nation, are also eligible for the program.

Minnesota Paramedic Scholarship Application Now Open:
The application for the Minnesota Paramedic Scholarship has launched and is available for eligible students to complete. A total of 600 scholarships of $5,000 each will be awarded to Minnesota residents who are completing a paramedic diploma or degree. All eligible programs require students to be a current Emergency Medical Technical (EMT) license holder before starting the program.
This temporary scholarship program was passed during the 2023 Minnesota Legislative session to increase the number of licensed paramedics in Minnesota. The first round of scholarships will be awarded to students starting Fall 2024. Questions about the program can be directed to Adam Johnson at Adam.D.Johnson@state.mn.us.

Students Leaving School During the School Day
Please remember that if your child is not feeling well during the school day, they must go through the Health Office. The Health Office needs to contact you for permission and write your child a pass to leave. If your child needs to leave for a planned appointment, the attendance office will give them a pass. Leaving the building without a pass from the health office or the attendance office will result in an unexcused absence.
Medications:
If there are medications that need to be given at school, please email the nurse for more information, or stop into the Health Office. The Health Office staff needs to confirm health conditions, paperwork, medications, and expiration dates.
COVID Updates
COVID Isolation Guidelines are the same as last school year. If your student tests positive for COVID they must stay home for 5 days (from symptom onset or date of positive test, whichever is first). Please notify the Health Office if your student tests positive. Health Office staff will talk through the dates and confirm the timeline. Students can return to school on day 6 and will be required to wear a mask at school on days 6-10.
There is no quarantine of close contacts; please send your student to school each day that they feel well.
We still have COVID tests. Contact the Health Office if you would like one sent home with your student.
