Wood Technology Backyard Fun
After seeing last year’s production of cornhole boards, this year's SJHS Wood Technology III students decided to stick with the yard game theme and chose to build ladder ball sets. And like last year’s boards, we feel we’ve designed and built a strong, accurate, and good looking set of ladders. The set features finished hard maple legs and feet for strength, crossgrain pegs locking in the rungs for durability, threaded knobs for easy removal of the feet for storage, and finally red, white and blue rungs for beauty.
Like previous years, students are learning the important concepts of mass production as well as business. With each ladder ball set sold, students pay for materials, invest back into the school’s wood lab, and earn a cut for their efforts. Many machines have been updated with the help of funds raised through this mass production class and we look forward to keeping our shop up to date and running smoothly.
Purchase of our product comes with the quality guarantee that as long as Mr. Feldpausch teaches at St. Johns High School, if something were to break you can bring it back to the wood shop and we’ll fix it for free!
Students are currently working to wrap up our second batch of ladder ball sets. By year's end we’ll have completed 33 sets- that’s 66 ladders built by 7 students (who also had to work alongside the Wood Technology IV students as they worked on their independent projects). As of this writing, there are 24 sets still available. If you’d like a set please email Mr. Feldpausch, feldpauschn@sjredwings.org. The cost is $80. We can also provide a set of soft or hard bolas for an additional cost.
Mr. Miller takes students to MSU
Mr. Miller's Applied Chemistry Students enjoyed a trip to MSU last month. The trip aligned with their studies of Nuclear Astro-Physics and Nuclear Chemistry. The trip included stops at the MSU Planetarium and the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB).
