October Special National Anthem!

Thank you to Maribelle Galbraith, EHS Student, who beautifully sang the National Anthem at our October Meeting! It is always special to have students join us at the meetings and share their talents! Thank you, Maribelle!

Happiness at Work Week! ๐Ÿ˜€

Wellness Liaison Miriam Underwood was happy to learn about the fun initiatives put forth by the staff Wellness Committee and report on it at the December meeting.

Thank you to Richie Diamond, Director of Vocal music and members of the Treble Choir for singing the National Anthem at the Board Meeting and giving us a special Holiday performance.

Board Member Viens and his family enjoyed OKP's annual performance. There was even a special meet and greet after the show! Kudos to all the students, staff and crew who put on this great show!

Best Costume? Miriam Underwood, while attending a Wellness meeting at EHS described this costume as "amazing"! It was treat to see students enjoy the day all while discussing staff wellness!

We thank Senators Dr. Saud Anwar and Jeff Gordon for joining us at our December meeting for our December Special Recognition! Congratulations on your re-election and we look forward to working together!

Central Office Spirit Day ๐Ÿงฆ

Our friends at Central Office had a fun sock spirit day in November following a 2nd annual Crockpot lunch and sock exchange - Crocks and Socks! This year a basket of socks was donated to Human Services to help those in need.

โ›„ Inclement Weather Procedure - Reminder!โ›„

It is that time of year again โ€“ winter weather is here and snowy days are a reality. EPSโ€™ recognizes that school cancellations, early dismissals, and late openings can be a significant inconvenience, especially for working families. With that said, student safety is always our first priority. The final decision regarding the impact of weather rests with the Superintendent.


Below is the typical process used to make this important decision:


  1. Between 4:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m., a conference call with a local meteorologist is made to assess the projected forecast for the entire school day.
  2. A call with the Ellington Department of Public Works (DPW) to check in on the real-time conditions of the roads and school parking lots. Additionally, the Facilities Director provides updates on the school walkways.
  3. Lastly, after consultation with the bus company, First Student, and with other local area superintendents, a decision is made for Ellington Public Schools.

This information is then communicated to families via email, phone, and text, as well as updated on our website, social media, and through local stations. This is a great time to log into your parent portal and ensure all information is up-to-date - check out how in the next section!

It is worth mentioning that making an inclement weather decision the evening prior is preferred, however, it is not an exact science; some calls are easier than others.


Rest assured, our first priority is the safety of Ellingtonโ€™s children, our staff, and the community.

EHS Student and Student Representative on the Town's Diversity Committee, Nona Gaur attended the December Regular meeting to support the Board's recommendations to add professional development days or half days on Diwali, Rosh Hashanah and Eid al Fitr. Nona shared a presentation at the Communications Committee meeting on 12/16 on the significance of Diwali within the community!
