Dear Estabrook Families,

The signs of spring are all around us. The mounds of snow in the front circle are nearly gone, thanks to the climbing temperatures and days of April showers. The increasing number of lost and found jackets means more students are able to shed them at recess. MCAS testing is well underway throughout the building, and parents are streaming through the doors each day on their way to Spring Parent Conferences. All the while, students are demonstrating an ever-increasing degree of autonomy and ownership of their learning, their friendships, and their responsibilities in school and out. It is a great time of year!

As we prepare for our April Vacation April 17-21, I wish your family the best for a fun, enjoyable, and hopefully warm break!

Lexington Superintendent of Schools Dr. Mary Czajkowski will be the featured guest at our Principal Coffee on Wednesday, April 12 at 8:45 a.m. Come hear from Dr. Czajkowski about some of the work taking place across Lexington and right here at Estabrook, and hear about her priorities for the district.

Parents with younger children entering kindergarten are asked to register for school as soon as possible. The process begins by registering online, then setting up an in-person appointment. Enrolling now guarantees student participating in kindergarten screening. We also appreciate you directing friends and neighbors who may be enrolling K-5 to register now. Students in Estabrook's English Language Learner program presented a Reader's Theatre to classmates on April 5. Students shared Chinese and Japanese folktales with students, parents and staff.

Wednesday, April 12 is SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL Day! Plan to walk, bike, scoot, carpool or take the bus to school. The class with the highest rate of participation claims the Estabrook Golden Sneaker Award!

Whenever your child is absent from school, please call the office before 8:30 on the day of the absence, or call/send a note anytime before the day of the absence. The Estabrook Attendance Line is (781) 861-2520 (then press 4). Please leave a message with your child's full name, the reason for the absence, anticipated date(s) of absence, and the teacher's name.

Field Day returns Friday, June 2nd! Estabrook is in need of volunteers to help make this exciting event happen. If you would like to volunteer, please click here to sign up. As is needed with all volunteer opportunities, please make sure you have an updated CORI with the Lexington Public Schools.

The last day of school for the 2016-2107 school year will be Thursday, June 22, 2017. This assumes no other cancellations due to weather this spring, which would delay the last day.

Our teachers put in long hours during Parent Conference weeks, and we so appreciate the thoughtful treats that appear in the faculty room on these days. Teachers love being able to meet with you to discuss you children's progress, but it is made all the sweeter with your considerate snacks! Thank you!
