ALDER AVENUE MIDDLE SCHOOL
WEEKLY NEWSLETTER
Week of May 11, 2025
Hello Alder Families,
We’ve had another exciting and eventful week here at Alder, and we’re so proud of all the wonderful things happening in our classrooms and beyond. Here’s a look at some of the highlights from the past few days:
🍽️ A Reading Restaurant Experience!
Mrs. Rafter’s ELA class transformed into a cozy "reading restaurant" yesterday! Students had the chance to sample a variety of books, getting a little taste of different genres and stories before choosing their favorites. It was a fun, creative way to kick off Book Clubs — and we can’t wait to see the great discussions and connections that come out of it!
🚲 Surrey Rides on the Boardwalk!
Students from Mrs. Murphy, Mr. Anderson, Mrs. Hendrix, and Mrs. Peterson’s classes have been working hard this year learning how to ride bikes, and this week they put those skills to the test with a trip to the boardwalk! They cruised along on surreys, taking in the fresh air and ocean views.
⚖️ A Day in the Courtroom — Virtually!
Today, students in Mr. Lucas, Mrs. Kuppel, and Mrs. Wenzel’s classes had a special opportunity to meet virtually with Judge Waldman and members of the Atlantic County Superior Court. They learned about how the court system works and explored different careers in the legal field. It was an inspiring and eye-opening experience for all students.
🎉 Congratulations to Our Honorees!
We’re thrilled to celebrate our amazing Teacher of the Year, Jim Ferriola, and our Educational Support Professional of the Year, Kim Savino! Both were recognized at this week’s Board of Education meeting for their outstanding dedication to our students and school community. Thank you for the positivity, care, and hard work you bring to our school each and every day. We’re so lucky to have you both on our team!
As always, thank you to our students, staff, and families for making Alder such a wonderful place to learn and grow.
Have a great weekend!
Ms. Cunningham
