The DMPS District Art Show
Iowa Statewide Assessment of Student Progress (ISASP)
Des Moines Public School students in grades 3-11 will take the Iowa Statewide Assessment of Student Progress (ISASP) in April. This assessment is required by the Iowa Department of Education for federal accountability purposes. Below are the plans to administer the assessment at Hanawalt. ***No smart watches can be worn during testing.***
Please read carefully to ensure you know the plan for your student. We need students to be on time for testing.
3rd Grade and 4th Grade:
- Monday, April 8th: Reading
- Tuesday, April 9th: Language and Writing
- Thursday, April 11th: Math
5th Grade:
- Monday, April 15th: Reading
- Tuesday, April 16th: Language and Writing
- Wednesday, April 17th: Math
- Thursday, April 18th: Science
Results: We anticipate sending test results out to all DMPS families via Infinite Campus mid-summer.

Kindergarten Sign-Up 2024-2025
Starting kindergarten is an exciting time for you and your child and we want the sign-up process to go as smoothly as possible for your family. Kindergarten sign-up has begun.
Children who are five years old on or before September 15, 2024, are eligible for Kindergarten starting with the 2024-25 school year. Find the information you need to start enrollment below.
WHAT DO I NEED?
Everyone is required to provide the following documents:*
- Birth certificate;
- Immunization records;
- Photo ID;
- Resident verification (may include, but not limited to: recent utility bill, current vehicle registration, recent DHS paperwork, signed lease agreement or notarized letter from your landlord.)
*All documentation must be received before sign-up can be completed.
HOW DO I SIGN UP?
Kindergarten Sign-Up
Below is a list of students who can complete sign-up at Hanawalt:
1.Younger siblings of students who currently attend Hanawalt and reside in our attendance area.
2.Younger siblings of students who currently attend Hanawalt who do not live in our attendance area but have a 24/25 Within District Transfer or Open Enrollment approval letter.
After July 1, 2024, regardless of the situation, ALL new students including incoming siblings, will need to go to the Welcome Center. If you have any questions, the Welcome Center can be contacted at 242-7371.

Call for Volunteers for A Day in the Arts
A Day in the Arts is an annual in-school event during which students engage in meaningful artistic experiences led by local artists, performers, and musicians. This year’s event will occur on Friday, May 3, 2024. This event cannot happen without the help of parent and community volunteers. Hawks' Night Out 2024
Reserve your tickets for Hanawalt's biggest fundraiser of the year, Hawk's Night Out 2024, "The Hanawalt Eras!" Hawk's Night Out is hosted by West End Architectural Salvage on April 19 from 6:30-9:30 p.m. Expect a night of fun, auction bidding, and building community. Parents, staff, supporters, neighbors, and prospective parents are all welcome. When you attend, you directly support all students to access enrichment experiences, after-school clubs, events, supplies, projects, and so much more. Follow us on Facebook for auction previews! Book Fair
Join us in the library for our spring Book Fair! All proceeds from this fair go towards the Hanawalt Library!
