Art at Brandt School
Look out for them as they will be bringing them home! We also colored and designed rainbow mandalas, spoke about the colors of the rainbow, and what each one represents to all of us.
Music at Wallace School
In music this week, we are wrapping up the performances for the year. 4th and 5th grade chorus prepared music for the upcoming 5th grade moving up ceremony. They are singing “Blank Space” by Taylor Swift as a prelude for guests.
Two of our 5th grade students, Nyah Beveridge and Maya Makendra, will be performing a duet in 2 part harmony for the National Anthem. They had to audition to receive this spot in the performance. It’s very challenging to sing it with a harmony part, and we are all proud of them. The select 5th grade chorus will be performing “You Will be Found” from Dear Evan Hansen.
These 4th and 5th grade chorus students meet weekly at lunch/recess to work on more advanced music. It’s been a great year in lunch chorus: Wildcats Chorale! If you missed band, violin, or chorus registration for next year, please contact us in the music department. We can guide you to the correct forms. They were posted on all class dojos
Art at Connors School
This week everyone finished their final art project and was able to take them home! Everyone has worked so hard this school year with drawing contests, the ART SHOW!!, art field trips, and everything in between! We have accomplished so much this year and I couldn’t be happier!
Pre-AP Dance at Hoboken MS
In Pre-AP Dance all grade levels finished their last product of the marking period; 6th graders explored Creative Dance, 7th graders learned the basics of Ballet, and 8th graders dove into Fusion Dance. The marking period will end with a reflective essay for all students in Pre-AP Dance class next week, great job to all students and their effort to finish off the year awesomely.
We wanted to take a moment and also shout out and thank a group of 8th grade students that on April 24th took a step outside the box when it comes to Dance and went on a field trip to Steven’s Institute of Technology in Hoboken for an awesome day of learning about Biomechanics/ specifically in Dance. They had the opportunity to explore their hometown college campus and experience possible gateways to using what they have been learning in Pre-AP Dance for their future education.
Pre-AP Theater at Hoboken MS
This week in Pre-AP students across all grade levels wrapped up the final learning cycle. 6th graders presented their production design concepts for West Side Story. 7th Graders finished devising their own original myths. 8th graders experimented with gibberish. Volunteers in each class continued to lead the class through the warm up activity each day.
Director in House remains an overall favorite but games like "1, 2, 3, Wa!" and "Garden of Statues" made a temporary comeback. We're looking forward to finishing out the year on a high note next week!

Grade & Content Level ~ What Have We Been Learning?
Brandt School
Kindergarten at Brandt School
It's hard to believe we've finished our last full week of kindergarten. It's been an incredible year filled with so much growth, learning, and most importantly - FUN. Our littlest learners have been reviewing various skills in preparation for first grade.
In ELA, students have gone over letter sounds, sight words, and important comprehension skills. In math, we've spent time on addition and subtraction, story problems, and an introduction to coins and money. In social studies, we're completing our last lessons on the Move This World platform, reflecting on our school year, and reminding ourselves what it means to be good students and citizens.
High on our list of things happening this week is our Moving Up Ceremony. Each class has been hard at work fine-tuning their performances for the big day. We're all looking forward to seeing our family and friends and celebrating this major milestone!
2nd Grade at Brandt School
In Writing we are having our publishing parties to celebrate all of our writing throughout the school year. We have published our nonfiction, realistic fiction, personal narratives, and poetry.
In Math we are closing out the year with some fun math games and friendly competition. We have continued strengthening our math facts skills with daily math fact work.
In Social Studies we had our community conversations reflecting on the 2nd grade year and how well it went and things they are now looking forward to.
4th Grade at Brandt School
In Social Studies, fourth graders learned about Pride, discussing the history of the LGBTQ+ movement and reading about important LGBTQ+ figures throughout our history.
In ELA, students finished reading Solimar, their last novel of the year. In conjunction with their novel study, students also completed a long-term writing project in which they created a fantasy story that incorporated a number of magical elements they’ve been reading about. They also created a movie poster of one of the novels they read this year, casting characters as real actors, writing a “trailer” for the story, and drawing a picture of a scene from the story.
In Math, students participated in multiple projects that helped them review key fourth-grade math concepts. They practiced finding area and perimeter by creating their "dream homes;" they made floor plans, determined how much carpeting, tile, and wall paint they would need, and added fun elements that fit their dream home vision! They also reviewed math they'd learned this year by completing a review packet and creating a poster about their lucky number. Using this lucky number, students identified its real-world use by solving and creating challenging math problems.
Physical Education at Brandt School
The choices included Gaga ball, corn hole, jump rope, hula hoop, cup stacking, basketball, wall ball, and enjoying the playground monkey bars. They were free to rotate among the different games as they wished!
Connors School
Kindergarten at Connors School: Ms. Bartolotti, Ms. Fernandez, Ms. Fleischer, Ms. Watson, Mrs. Schain, and Ms. Ramos
Always remember when you put your heart and mind into it, you can achieve anything. We loved celebrating with ice-cream and a bubble show!
2nd Grade at Connors School: Ms. Rinaldi, Ms. Garcia, Ms. Criqui, Ms. Courtney, Mr. Donovan, and Mrs. White
ELA: During this last full week of school, our amazing second graders worked so hard on reviewing various ELA skills from throughout the school year, such as handwriting skills, phonics, and grammar. We are so incredibly proud of how hard they have worked this school year!
Math: Although our time is coming to an end, 2nd graders are still learning something new every single day! We completed Unit 6 on measurement, and now we know how to measure using inches and centimeters. We also moved onto Unit 7 to learn about even and odd numbers, as well as repeated addition (introduction to multiplication). These mathematicians are using their knowledge gained throughout this school year to make connections to our new concept of the basics of multiplication. We are so proud of all of their hard work!
Father's Day - This week, 2nd graders worked on surprise gifts for a special person in their life for Father's Day. The 2nd grade team wishes all the fathers and father figures a wonderful weekend!
Gaga Ball - This week, 2nd graders had extra recess outside and they were so excited to use the new Gaga Ball pit! We watched an informative video to learn about the rules of Gaga Ball, and have been playing this amazing game all week.
4th Grade at Connors School: Ms. Schulz, Mrs. Rodriguez, Ms. Stubbe, Ms. Goodwin, Ms. Courtney, Ms. Romanowski, and Mr. Donovan
ELA: Phenomenal 4th Graders Readers were excited to read the thrilling conclusion of the core novel "Who Let the Gods Out?" by Maz Evans. There are two sequels to this quirky story that students may be interested in reading. Throughout the year they have enjoyed reading the core texts, developing their independent reading and text analysis skills.
Math: Phenomenal 4th grade mathematicians have ended the school year with the study of Unit 8: Penny Jars and Towers. Students worked with tables and mathematical expressions to describe and compare contexts and solve problems. They made arguments about how the total number of counters in situations compared as the number of rounds increased. Students have been very successful in mathematics this year and loved working with one another to solve mathematical problems.
Students in Ms. Schulz's class had a Koala Dance Party this week. They had an awesome time!
Social Studies: Students in 4th grade worked hard all year to learn about exploration and important people and places. They used numerous resources to help aid their learning and have strengthened their math reading skills, usage context clues, and graph reading skills. They enjoyed learning about how the United States came to be dating back to the early days under British control to the Revolutionary War. Keep up the great learning 4th graders!

Wallace School
Kindergarten at Wallace School
In ELA and Math this week, students had an opportunity to review previous units and reflect on all that they have learned this year. We are so proud of all they have accomplished!
Our Kindergarteners also had so much fun celebrating this week. We had our Kindergarten picnic, which included lots of fun games and activities for our students to enjoy together. We also had a great time at field day, and ended the week with our Kindergarten promotion ceremony! Great job to all!
2nd Grade at Wallace School
It has been a busy last full week here in second grade and our future third graders spent the week creating a memory book and reflecting on all the fun times we've had throughout the year. Homerooms also celebrated a successful school year with our end of the year parties. Some classes went to the park for picnics and others had a tie dye party! We also had our annual field day which was a blast and included a water slide which the children loved!! We ended the week completing our Father's Day project and signing our memory books.
The second grade team wants to thank our families for your support and dedication in your child's learning. We hope everyone has a relaxing and fun-filled summer!
4th Grade at Wallace School
The 4th Grade children wrapped up our last full week of school with many fun and exciting activities. Field Day was the hit of the week! The kids had a great time playing with their friends showing off their skills. We sure do have some competitors in this class!
We also celebrated all of their wonderful accomplishments throughout the school year and reviewed the criteria for their summer assignments for both ELA and Math. The 4th Grade team is so proud of the progress each and every child has made across all of the curriculum. They worked so hard and had a lot of fun with their peers as well. Have a fantastic summer!
Hoboken Middle School
6th Grade Math at Hoboken MS
This week our 6th grade mathematicians are wrapping up the PLTW portion of our curriculum, “Green Architecture.” Students completed their culminating project of their PLTW course, which was building a shed.
Students did a fantastic job putting their sheds together and were very creative making their shed their own by decorating them. Students then created a Google slides presentation explaining their shed, how they built it, and the extra designs they chose to enhance their creations. Everyone should be very proud of themselves for the effort they put in completing their culminating project of the school year.
7th Grade Math at Hoboken MS
This week in math class, students completed their final builds of the PLTW unit. Throughout the unit, students explored robotics and automation, and worked in teams to create prototypes to meet the needs of clients.
They built and analyzed mechanical systems and automated them with programmed input and output devices. Next week, during our final days together, we will reflect on the school year and all that the students have learned in 7th-grade math!
8th Grade Math at Hoboken MS
Pre-Algebra
In our last full week of school we had so much fun! Students wrapped up their Lesson 1.7 PLTW Projects where they created a germ app game. We celebrated three of our students: Sean Quinn, Owen Hastings, and Michael Casazza on winning 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in the 8th grade Math League competition. On Thursday we had so much fun at field day playing games like basketball, kickball, and so much more. I know the entire 8th grade is looking forward to practicing for their big day next Tuesday! Can’t wait to see everyone in their caps and gowns. Have a great weekend!
Pre-AP Algebra
During this last full week of the year Algebra students took on the challenge of creating games and apps of their own in App Creators and had the opportunity to try out the designs of others. We also took some time during class to reflect upon the year and to think about goals for the summer and for next year. Thursday the kids took a well deserved break to take part in Field Day. Students also took some time to begin to practice for graduation which will take place next Tuesday! I look forward to seeing everyone there!

Physical Education Department at Hoboken HS
Celebrating a Year of Physical Education:
As the school year draws to a close, it's time to reflect on the fantastic journey we've had in our Physical Education (PE) class. This year has been filled with growth, achievements, and countless memorable moments that have contributed to both our physical health and personal development.
Highlights of the Year
Fitness Challenges:
At the beginning of the year, we kicked off with various fitness testing aimed at improving our endurance, strength, and overall fitness. From the pacer run to the situp and pushup challenge, students showed remarkable progress and determination. It was inspiring to see everyone pushing their limits and supporting each other.
Team Sports:
We engaged in a variety of team sports, including soccer, basketball, volleyball, and more. These activities not only honed our athletic skills but also emphasized the importance of teamwork, communication, and sportsmanship. The highlight was definitely the daily class games where friendly competition brought out the best in everyone.
Individual Sports and Skills:
Throughout the year, we also focused on individual sports like tennis, power walking for fitness. These activities allowed students to discover and develop new skills while fostering a sense of individual achievement and personal growth.
Wellness Education:
Understanding the importance of a balanced approach to health, we incorporated lessons on meditation, yoga and overall wellness. These classes and discussions equipped students with the knowledge to make healthier lifestyle choices beyond the classroom.
Reflections and Looking Ahead
This year has not only been about physical activity but also about building a community of support and encouragement. The friendships formed and the resilience shown by students have been truly remarkable.
As we look forward to the next academic year, we aim to continue this momentum. There will be more diverse activities, new challenges, and opportunities for students to grow both physically and mentally. Remember, the lessons learned in PE go beyond the gym; they are about perseverance, teamwork, and a commitment to health that will last a lifetime.
Arts Department at Hoboken HS
The student's photo attached chose to focus on climate change and pollution for her assignment. Students also learned how to use drawing pencils of different grades while drawing and shading the eye and all its reflections.
Science Department at Hoboken HS
AP Biology
Following their big exam, students in AP Biology completed several projects including dissecting a frog!
Students in Pre-AP Biology recently completed several labs, including modeling pigeon chromosomes, extracting DNA from a plant and modeling the process of diffusion utilizing dialysis tubing.
CP and Pre AP Chemistry
This week in CP and Pre AP Chemistry the students completed their course work and finished the year out with their final exam. Both CP and Pre AP spent time reviewing for their final by participating in review activities. CP chemistry used the platform Quizizz to complete practice questions. They were able to take the practices multiple times until they achieved mastery to prepare for the type of questions they would see on the exam. We also played some friendly competitive games on Blooket using topics from the entire year’s curriculum. Pre AP completed their last Performance Task and Learning check. The learning checkpoints are multiple choice formatted questions that College Board provides on their pre-app classroom and the performance tasks are in the format of the free response questions that the students will see on the final exam. They also spent time working on the platform Albert.io to review material from the year.
The AP Chemistry class finished up a project this week. They students were tasked with developing an actionable plan to achieve on local and one global level project that would help provide access to clean water. In part 1 the students had to investigate and learn about access to clean water at a local and global level and the challenges that communities face. They identify a problem that a local and a global community faces and then in part 2 they had to create an action plan to solve that problem. The access to clean water project allowed the students to bridge the content from the AP Chemistry course to a real world problem and allow the students to explore how important chemistry is to providing solutions to challenges that humanity faces.

Their dedication, passion, and commitment to our school community have resonated with voters, and they have emerged victorious to lead us into a bright future.
We extend our heartfelt congratulations to the winners and express our gratitude to all candidates who participated in this democratic process. Your willingness to serve and engage with our community is truly commendable.
To all voters, thank you for exercising your right to vote and for playing an essential role in shaping the future of our school community. Your participation is crucial, and your voices have made a difference.
As we move forward, let us unite and work together to build a stronger, more vibrant school community for all.
National Honor Society: Sharing the Value of Community Service
One of the four pillars of the National Honor Society is service. This year our members carried out 1,939 hours of community service. The National Honor Society, in conjunction with other student activities, has been working to broaden the Redwing culture of community service by sharing opportunities with the student body in general, and not just with our members. Through the online platform Innerview, we have advertised over 20 service opportunities this year to Redwings who have Innerview accounts. All of those were available to any Hoboken High student who wanted to sign up.
Students wishing to join the National Honor Society must already have a record of community service in order to be selected as members. After hearing for many years that students did not know how to find service projects, we began a campaign of advertising volunteer opportunities in school and through Innerview. We believe that doing volunteer work helps our students to see the value they have to offer the community and gives them a sense of empowerment.
The Innerview platform is free to use for schools. It is aligned with the United Nations Global Goals and gives students a way to build a service resume that they can share online with prospective employers and colleges. We have been using it since 2020 and our students find it easy to use.
We encourage all Redwings to consider creating an account on Innerview and starting their volunteer journey. Attached is a flyer about how to sign up for an Innerview account as well as a flyer showing the school's record of community service this year. If students have any questions about the National Honor SOciety or Innerview, they can reach out to Mrs. McGreivey in the high school library.
