Girls Lacrosse team celebrates Senior night
Notes from Principal Chapman
Dear LHS Families, Students and Staff,
May is Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month as well as Military Appreciation Month. May is also Jewish Heritage Month and the observance of Yom Hashoah or Day of Remembrance honoring the anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, an act of courage and resistance that arose in the German-occupied Warsaw Ghetto in 1943 to fight against Nazi led Germany’s oppression and genocide tactics and agenda. Notably, 700 young Jewish fighters participated by refusing to assemble at collection points and burrowing in underground bunkers. Yom Hashoah reminds us that any form of oppression, starvation, extermination, or abuse of
any group of people is never okay. Thank you to the young people, families, military service members and humanitarian aid workers who intervened in support of justice during WWII. As an IB school we are dedicated to educating students to help lead a more just and peaceful world and to model our Go Cards Values.
We hope to see everyone at our Spring Musical “Into the Woods this Thursday-Saturday. To say that this year’s casts are incredibly talented would be an understatement, and they are having so much fun with this show. Go Theater Cards. The weather is perfect for outdoor athletic games and matches as well!
Go Cards!

Golf
Early last week, Quinn Hefele finished first individually in the PIL Golf League and qualified for the State Tournament this week. Congratulations, Quinn! What an amazing accomplishment! Sending all of our Cardinal spirit your way as you compete at the State tournament this week.
The Lincoln Girls Golf team had an excellent season, playing in more than 8 tournaments, which is the most in the last three years. Further, this is the first season we put together a sponsorship package, which resulted in enough funds to purchase golf bags for the varsity team! The players are excited for summer golf to start up June 15 to play at courses across Portland. Please reach out if you are interested in joining.
Tennis
The Girls Tennis Team celebrated our Seniors in the last home match of the season on Thursday against Roosevelt. Congratulations to Tess Cupper, Elle Newton, Paula Macmillan, Magana Bancud, Anna Klein and Gwyneth Bao. We are going to miss you all but excited to follow your next chapters. Go Graduating Cards!
Both tennis teams are competing in the PIL District Championships this week at PTC. Good luck to all of our athletes on the road to state!
Lacrosse
Lincoln Girls Lacrosse is on a 4 game winning streak, with the biggest win coming on Senior Night against Ida B Wells. Varsity battled through an intense game to win 20-19. Our first JV team since pre-Covid just wrapped up their season this week. The JV program had over 14 players brand new to the sport of lacrosse. Varsity wraps up their regular season on Friday against OES and will head into the postseason. This year was a huge success for the program as we have doubled our numbers in the last two years and continue to be competing at a high level within the state. Our program has a bright future with 30/40 players being underclassmen! Girls LAX will host a home playoff game on 5/15 at 7pm - go GLAX!
Although the Boys Lacrosse Team has had some unfortunate injuries to very integral starters, the development of our Junior Varsity team has led to immediate impacts from players such as Liam Smith, Bailey Gross and Mac MacColl to fill those roles. Through it all, the Boys Lacrosse Team has climbed to an impressive 8th in state ranking going into the final two games of the regular season. It’s a higher ranking than how our team ended up last season and something no one believed besides the young men in our huddle. The Boys will play their last conference game on 5/14 at OES at 7pm. Good luck, Boys!
Baseball
Baseball was in the news featuring Senior Garrett Schmokel. They are currently first in the PIL and 12th in the State. Last Friday, there was a big matchup with IBW to finish their series after a rain delay. Cards prevailed on the backs of a double from Riley Yoo and a home run from Liam Eldridge to get both runners to the plate in the 6th inning. Then, the Cards survive on Saturday against Franklin to finish their week 5-0. Congratulations to Cardinal Baseball and good luck through your last week of League play.
Track and Field
Lincoln Track and Field had another fantastic district championship hosted at Lincoln HS. Our JV boys and JV girls got the meet started by winning the team district titles. Our Varsity closed out the meet by winning both Varsity district titles. For the second year in a row, we swept the team championships, JV Girls and Boys, and Varsity Girls and Boys. Our girls have now won 8 district titles in a row. We currently have 18 athletes or relays qualified for the state meet at Hayward Field and hope to qualify up to 6 more. It's been a truly memorable year!
The Arts
LINCOLN DRAMA PRESENTS “INTO THE WOODS'' OPENING MAY 9-11 and CLOSING MAY 16-18! Into the Woods is a musical by Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine about a baker and his wife who are cursed to be childless. Along the way, they meet Cinderella, Jack, Little Red Ridinghood, Rapunzel, the Wicked Witch, a wolf, giants, and princes.
