We are halfway through the 2nd semester!
We are halfway through our second semester already and we are working away! There are so many goals to be met and things to learn. We are so proud of all their hard work and want to finish of this second semester strong!
Some tips for frequency word practice at home....
There are so many ways to learn sight words besides flash cards! Flash cards work great- but spice it up! When working on words... always stick with some they absolutely know and introduce a couple new words at a time. Try putting several flash cards on the floor... Tell them to hop to a word... Jump up and down on another... do 2 jumping jacks when they find another, etc.
Another fun thing is to hide the words around the house. Have them hunt for them and bring them back to you and tell you what word they have found.
Give them a fly swatter and place the words on the table. When they see the word you said- they slap it with the fly swatter.
Let them text the words to you, or grandma, or their favorite aunt. It's a fun way to let them use technology and be learning.
Have them write the words out in 1 color marker, then go over it in another color, and then a 3rd color. It's called Rainbow Writing- and they LOVE it!
Use sugar or shaving cream and let them write the words out.
Look up Jack Hartmann sight word songs on YouTube! They are SO good and the kids LOVE them!
Another fun at home activity, remember the magnetic letters you got at the beginning of the year? Use those letters on the refrigerator and have them make a simple word like "cat" then have them change the "c" to a "p" and ask them what word they made... then have them change the "a" to an "o" and ask again. Keep changing out one letter at a time working on these simple CVC words. This is a great way to practice letter recognition and letter sounds! If you don't want to use the magnets on your fridge- placing them on a cookie sheet is another great option.
If your child is still needing practice on letters, this is also a great way to practice. Put those magnetic letters on a cookie sheet or on the fridge all out of order and have them put them back in order.
The possibilities are endless. Make learning interactive and fun for them!

Hour of code!
Ms. May came into each classroom and did "Hour of Code!" The kids really enjoyed their technology time learning how to code. If your child was really into it, check out Learn (hourofcode.com) or Kodable fuzz at https://youtu.be/Uh_8ZV0klhs.
The book fair was a huge success!
Thank you for making our Book Fair amazing and creating memories that will last a lifetime! Our winter Book Fair was a great success! Thank you to all that sent money in for your child to shop and to all of you that volunteered your time to help out! There were SO MANY HAPPY kiddos and my heart was full seeing all the excitement the kiddos had over their new books! I also loved how many shopped for little brothers and sisters who were at home. They were so excited to take that perfect book they picked out for them home! Thank you all for making the book fair a great success!
