The Buzz at Westbrook School
January 19, 2024
FROM the PRINCIPAL...
Dear Westbrook Families,
Happy New Year! It is wonderful to be back in the building with our students and staff. Students have done an excellent job jumping right back into the routines and school expectations. We look forward to an exciting 2024 full of learning!
This year, the PTO room representatives will host Valentine's Day parties at Westbrook for kindergarten and first-grade students. If your child would like to bring valentines for the entire class, please ensure they are only non-food items. If food items are sent, they must be returned to the student who brought them.
The Westbrook data team will meet this coming week to review our winter benchmarking data. Kindergarten and first-grade teachers will analyze data to identify trends and establish goals in our work with students. The team will also look at individual student data to identify students who qualify for additional literacy and math support. If your child qualifies for additional support, parents will be notified.
First-grade students will have an opportunity to visit community helper stations on Monday, February 26th. Stations will include presentations from the Mount Prospect Republic Services, Police Department, Fire Department, and an arborist from the Morton Arboretum. There will also be time for play during the class rotations. Presentations will take place in the music room, art room, classrooms, and outside. Classroom teachers and administrators will be with students throughout their community helper experience. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me with further questions. If you would like to opt your child out of any of the community helper events, please click here.
For Your Children,
Danielle Crandall

Kindergarten Enrollment (2024-2025)
Westbrook’s Kindergarten program is a half-day program with a choice of either a morning (AM) or afternoon (PM) session, scheduled from Monday through Friday. Children must have reached the age of 5 on or before September 1, 2024, in order to be eligible for 24-25 kindergarten registration.
Families will have the opportunity to enter a lottery for enrollment in the morning (AM) program. The lottery will utilize a random number generator to establish the order of placement. Once all available slots for the AM classes are filled, students will be assigned to the afternoon (PM) session. For those students who participated in the lottery but were not selected for the morning program, their randomly assigned number will determine their position on the AM waitlist. If any openings become available in the morning program, we will contact families accordingly.
