About The Author
Cormac McCarthy was born on July 20th, 1933 in Providence, Rhode Island. He is an American author who typically writes Southern Gothic, Western, And Post-apocalyptic. He is mostly known for All The Pretty Horses, No Country For Old Men, and The Road. McCarthy has written ten novels and has won many different awards/prizes for them.
Main Characters
Two of the main characters from The Road is the man (the young boy's father) and his son. In a post-apocalyptic world, the only thing that these two care about is each other. The man's child is basically his only reason to live. Also, the author doesn't actually give these characters names in this book.
Conflict That Drives The Book
The main conflict that drives this book is the journey that the man and his son take trying to reach the coast. They experience many other smaller conflicts during their travels such as cannibals and bad freezing weather. They want to get to the coast because they think it will be a safer place live and that the overall conditions will be better.
Plot
The book starts out with the man and the boy who live in a post-apocalyptic world where almost no people are left. These two are trying to head southeast towards the coast in order to survive the up-coming winter months. Along the way, they come across some very bad cannibalistic people who they must avoid during their journeys. They also continuously suffer from starvation and illness. They happen to come across sparse amounts of food in some areas, but they must continue along the road. Towards the end of the book they reach the coast and it's not the paradise that they were expecting. What will end up happening to them? Find out for yourself in The Road!
Target Market
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading post-apocalyptic stories, or just likes a good, suspenseful book. I think that the target age group for this book would be teens to young adults. Also, people who are into darker books might like this one.
Did I Like The Book?
Yes, I did enjoy this book. I thought it was very well written and it kept me on the edge of my seat at times. Although it was a little dark and slow during certain sections of the book, I still liked it over all. I would recommend most people to read it if they enjoy this type of genre. I'd rate this book a 7/10.
