Your CTL #5
Finals, Features, and Feedback - December 2024

Semester Wrap-Up
Finish Strong: End-of-Semester Checklist
As we close out the semester, here are a few important tasks to ensure a smooth finish:
- Download Student Submissions: Save any necessary student work for your records.
- Download the Gradebook: Keep a copy of your course grades for reference.
- Export Your Course: Create a backup of your course content for future use.
- Enter Missing Grades: Double-check Canvas for missing grades to ensure accuracy.
- Submit Final Grades in SIS: Finalize and submit grades through the Student Information System (SIS) by the deadline.
Completing these steps helps organize your records and sets the stage for a fresh start next semester!
Download Student Submissions
If you share previous student work with future students (with their permission) or like to keep copies of their work, it would be best to bulk download those assignments before the course is concluded.
Follow the instructions on how to download all student submissions for an assignment.
Download the Gradebook
Consider downloading a copy of your grades to a .CSV file as a back-up...just in case!
Follow the instructions on how to download the gradebook.
Export your Course
If you don't teach a course every semester, you may wish to export a copy of your course so you won't lose access to the content.
Follow the instructions for how to export your course.
Enter Missing Grades
Review your gradebook and make sure you’ve entered all missing submissions. When grade cells are left ungraded (containing a dash), students with ungraded work see their final grade without any unsubmitted assignments factored in, which gives students an inaccurate view of their grades.
You can easily manage this by setting up a Missing Submission Policy, which lets you automatically apply a grade for all missing submissions in the Gradebook. When you initially enable it, it will show 100%. Change the grade as you wish, and then click Apply Settings.
Read the Canvas guide on how to apply a Missing Submission policy in the Gradebook.
Submit Final Grades
Once your students have reviewed their grades, you’ve downloaded the assignments you want to save, and have downloaded the Gradebook, you are ready to submit the final grade roster.
Review the SIS Faculty Center Basics QRG to help you submit your grades.
