Funding Needs in our School District
Did you know that the Douglas County School District has 92 schools and a $300 million backlog of capital investments that are needed in these buildings – this includes our school! Please take a couple of minutes to watch this brief video where our Superintendent explains in more detail. Learn more at https://funding.dcsdk12.org/bond-overview
Have You Turned in Your Ballot?
Election Day is fast approaching. Please be sure to turn in your ballot by 7 p.m. on Tuesday, November 5. You can track the status of your ballot and find the locations of ballot boxes and other polling centers at www.DouglasVotes.com. Remind your friends, family and neighbors to turn in their ballots as well!
Halloween Reminders
As we approach Halloween, we want to inform you about our school's policy regarding costumes. We ask that students not wear costumes during school hours. This decision is made to ensure a safe and distraction-free learning environment for all students.
We encourage families to celebrate the holiday at home and enjoy the festivities in a fun and safe manner. Thank you for your understanding and support in helping us maintain a focused atmosphere for learning.

Scooter, Skateboard, and Bike Safety Reminders
We want to remind everyone about the importance of bike, skateboard, scooter, etc. safety. Please take a moment to discuss safety guidelines with your child, including wearing helmets, monitoring speed, and being aware of their surroundings while traveling to and from school. We are also seeing many students riding right up to the front doors and even attempting to ride into the school doors. All students must dismount their bike, scooter, skateboard, etc upon crossing over onto school campus. Together, we can ensure a safe and enjoyable commute for all our students. Thank you for your continued support in keeping our community safe!

Lost and Found
This is a photo of our current lost and found after only one week back with students. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE label your student’s lunch boxes, water bottles, and inside jacket labels. If a student’s name is on the item, we can get it back to them. Also, PE clothes have a specific area on the front (both shirt and shorts) to write their name on them. If PE clothes end up in the lost and found with no name, then we have no idea whose it is and your student would end up needing to purchase a new uniform.
PLC Work At Cimarron
At the heart of Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) is a focus on student learning. Teachers in a PLC work together weekly to identify key learning objectives and develop strategies to help all students achieve these goals. This collective effort leads to more targeted instruction and better student outcomes which is increased learning and growth for our students.
PTO
Calling All Cimarron Parents and Families,
Please save the date to join us for the Festival of Trees on Saturday, December 7th, 2024!
The PTO needs your help to make this beloved seasonal celebration possible!
What is the Festival of Trees?
This special event, held on the first Saturday in December, is a cherished tradition that kicks off the holiday season for hundreds of Cimarron families, alumni, neighbors, and friends. The entire community comes together to enjoy sweet treats, share holiday cheer, and support our Colts, with the chance to win a special tree!
By placing purchased tickets into a designated box for each tree, ticket holders have the chance to win their desired tree, along with all the corresponding gifts, goodies, gift cards, and surprises. Winning tickets are drawn during the grand finale at the end of the event, and those with winning tickets get to take home a new tree (keeping the actual tree is optional) and all the gifts and goodies that come with it!
Ways to Participate:
Attend on Saturday, December 7th, from 9am-12pm and purchase tickets to enter the drawings for trees!
Sponsor a Tree: You can deck out your sponsored tree to reflect your company/organization, or choose a fun theme and get creative with your decorations! All sponsored trees, filled with products and gift cards, will be displayed for attendees on December 7th. Start planning now to make your tree part of your holiday giving! Your donation to our 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization is tax-deductible, and sponsoring a tree is a great way to showcase your support for local students and families in Parker!
Pre-Event Preparation: We need great gift wrappers and creative crafters to help make this year’s Hometown Holiday celebration merry and bright! Volunteers are needed to wrap medium and large boxes with provided paper supplies over Thanksgiving break. We will also need support inflating balloons at home from December 4-6.
Event Help: We need muscle and might on Friday, December 6th, from 3-7pm to assist with setting up lights, tables, and trees! Additional volunteers are needed on Saturday, December 7th from 8am-12pm to help run the event and from 12-2pm for clean-up.
Together, we can make the 2024 Festival of Trees an unforgettable experience for our students, staff, and community! Whether you can give a little time or a lot, your involvement will make a big difference in our students' and staff's success this year. Please plan accordingly and watch for more updates, tree sponsor sign-up and volunteer sign-up in the next Colts Chronicle!
If you have questions or are interested in joining the Festival of Trees 2024 event committee, please text (303) 564-0061!
Veterans Day Celebration
Cimarron Middle School is hosting our annual Veterans Day Celebration to honor those in our community who selflessly serve our country.
Please invite your veteran to join us on Monday, November 11th at 8:30 am at Cimarron. Your veteran, student, and other family members will be able to join us for this fantastic event. The celebration will last approximately 45 minutes and there will be a reception for veterans immediately following the ceremony.
Please RSVP here or to Stephany Hoff at 720-433-1368 by November 4th.
Veterans Day Field of Flags
This Veterans Day, Cimarron students will set up a field of American flags to honor America’s veterans and raise critical funds to support our ill and injured heroes.
Each flag in the Field of Flags honors a different veteran. And behind each flag is a unique story—a story about courage and freedom. A story about sacrifice. A story worth honoring.
Each flag is a donation to represent one veteran and our unwavering commitment to serving all veterans after they’ve sacrificed so much for our country. All donations will raise critical funds to support the life-changing services DAV (Disabled American Veterans) provides for veterans in need and their families.
Will you fly a flag to honor veterans? USE THIS LINK to add your flag to our field today.

Donations
Donations Needed: Please drop off all donations at the front office. We appreciate you!
We are always looking for gift card donations of $5 gift cards to support our Be RED card Friday Drawings. Students love Fika, McDonalds, Starbucks, Chick-fil-A, Berry Blendz, Swirls, Target, and Five Below gift cards.
In an effort to show our appreciation for our outstanding staff, we are launching an initiative to provide them with tokens of gratitude throughout the year. These tokens, though small, carry a significant impact in letting our staff know that their hard work and dedication do not go unnoticed. To achieve this, we have created an Amazon Wish List filled with a variety of small thank-you gifts that our staff members would greatly appreciate. These gifts will be given out as tokens of appreciation to those who consistently go the extra mile for our students.
The Be RED store is up and running! On 10/3, the kids spent just shy of 600 Red Cards and on 10/24 they spent 630 Red Cards - WOW!!
We are employing 8th grade students to help run the store this year. It has been awesome to see their interactions with younger students and their hard work.
We are always looking for continued donations as our inventory gets pretty low; the best sellers are Air Heads, packs of gum, mini Gatorades, and lunch-sized bags of chips/ pringles/ goldfish/ etc!!
Feel free to search on this Amazon wish list but you can always go off board too! Ask your student for ideas on items they would like to see in the store! Thank you!
Love and Logic Parenting Tip
In a world that often feels like it’s spinning faster than we can keep up, helping our children find their way isn’t just about giving them the right tools—it’s about helping them discover the deeper meaning behind what they do. A sense of purpose gives kids a roadmap for life. It helps them make healthy and responsible decisions, stay motivated, and understand the impact of their actions on others. Kids with a clear sense of purpose are more resilient, less likely to get derailed by bumps in the road, and more focused on achieving meaningful goals. This often translates into better grades, stronger relationships, and a deeper sense of fulfillment. So how can we, as parents and educators, help them get there?
Encourage Helping Others
When kids see the difference they can make, it boosts their self-esteem and helps them develop empathy. When kids realize that their actions can have a positive impact, they begin to see that life is about more than just themselves. This sense of contribution is a key part of finding purpose.
Teach the Value of Goals and Hard Work
Teach your child the importance of setting and working towards goals. Start with small, achievable goals. Help them break down big goals into smaller steps. It’s also important for kids to develop perseverance. Life isn’t always easy, and achieving goals often means pushing through challenges. Encourage your child to see setbacks as learning opportunities, not as reasons to give up.

CMAS Testing Spring 2025
The state test, CMAS, is very important to Cimarron Middle School. When families look to move into our community, the first consideration before buying a house is the performance of the schools. Cimarron Middle School is scored on the growth and achievement of the state assessment. When our enrollment is up, we get better funding to provide our students with the best experiences possible. Our staff uses these scores to guide curricular resources and programming for our students.
We are proud of the 91% of students that took this assessment last year. We are grateful for the way our community prioritizes education and hope to continue to have an outstanding high rate of participation. This prepares students for standardized testing in their future, including college readiness assessments or a standardized assessment for the career students choose.
If you choose to not have your student take this assessment, you will need to first set up a meeting with the grade level assistant principal. At this meeting we want to gain understanding of the reason, as well as talk about the importance of this assessment. This process for excusal is available until December 1st to opt out of the state assessment (CMAS). This means that meetings with the grade level AP will need to take place before this deadline date.
