ALEDO ISD SCHOOL BUILDINGS CLOSED REMAINDER OF 2019-2020 SCHOOL YEAR

Exciting news for a member of the Aledo High School Class of 2020! Senior Bearcat Weston Reese has received and accepted an appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy. Reese has been a Bearcat since Kindergarten and will soon be heading to the academy with a four-year scholarship equivalent to $450,000. According to his Blue and Gold officer, Dr. Michael Ryan, he is the first Naval Academy appointment in the last five years since Dr. Ryan has been assigned to Aledo ISD.

During the school closure due to COVID-19, our Aledo ISD teachers have been asked to teach our students in a whole new way. They have adapted and done a tremendous job in connecting with our Bearcats during these difficult times and we will honor them collectively next week during Teacher Appreciation Week from May 4-8!

Bearcats, next week show your creativity and appreciation by thanking our teachers who have risen to the occasion to serve our Bearcat students!

Aledo High School student Amy Jasso's artwork has been chosen by the Texas Art Education Association, TAEA for outstanding recognition and has been displayed during Youth Art Month. Amy is a junior in Mrs. Andrew's Art class. The art piece is titled "Circus Trio" and is a mixed medium. Congratulations to Amy on this prestigious recognition of her talents!

Students in 8th Grade Pre-AP U.S. History classes worked throughout the year to create a product in one of the five categories - historical paper, website, performance, exhibit board, documentary - as part of the National History Day Competition.

Aledo Middle School hosted a History Fair and 24 students advanced to the Regional Competition at UTA on March 7. Two AMS students, Cassidy Cole and Jackson Grubbs, placed in the top two and advanced to the State Competition in Austin!

The Texas History Day Competition is being conducted virtually this year and the awards ceremony will takes place tonight at 6 p.m.

Aledo ISD is constantly working to make sure our families are aware of resources available within our community, especially as they relate to our current circumstances and school closure related to COVID-19. SUPPORT RESOURCES FOR BEARCAT FAMILIES

Aledo ISD Pre-K and Kindergarten Registration started online April 28. New Kindergarten students must be 5 years old on or before September 1, 2020. Steps include completing the online registration and uploading required documents in the parent online portal. If you are unable to upload documents, you may bring these in person when the campuses re-open or at the next registration event in August. Pre-Kindergarten students must meet specific criteria to enroll and the website link below provides more information.

Registration for bus transportation services begins Friday, May 1. Each school year, Aledo ISD students who will be riding the bus must be registered to receive transportation services.

Click here to visit the Bus Transportation Department webpage that will include a link to route information. Please wait until about two weeks before school starts to look up your child’s route information.

Aledo High School seniors had the chance to return to their beloved campus on Tuesday. It was cap and gown pickup for the Class of 2020. This was held as a drive-thru as senior and parents drove through for a quick pickup. Principal Dan Peterson was on site greeting the seniors and families as they arrived.

Aledo ISD will pay tribute to our seniors throughout the month of May, and the end of their scholastic journey approaches. We will share photos, videos, and great news from the Class of 2020 leading up to the Graduation event that is still to be determined.

We ask parents, coaches, family, friends, businesses and members of the Aledo ISD community to join us in celebrating these students by posting messages on social media using the hashtag #AledoClassof2020. This will also allow us to share all the great images that are being posted. Stay strong Bearcat Seniors, we are thinking about you!

In a tribute to the Class of 2020, Aledo ISD is shining the light on the senior class! Each Friday night, the lights at Bearcat Stadium, AHS baseball and softball fields and Aledo Middle School will come on at exactly 8:20 p.m. This specific time is 20:20 in military time. The lights at each facility will shine for 20 minutes. Reminder: the stadiums and fields remain closed.

We are celebrating our Child Nutrition Department employees and all the amazing work they are doing serving our Bearcat students. They have been on the frontlines for Aledo ISD since the school closure began in March. They are providing daily meals for Bearcat students through delivery and pickup service.

We are grateful for these amazing employees and their tireless commitment to serving our students!

Please include student name(s) and, if requesting a refund, please include current mailing address.

The Aledo Bearcats and Ladycats are well represented on the All-District teams in 4-5A. Due to the school closure, the Aledo soccer seasons were forced to end before the playoffs. During the Aledo ISD school closure, all campuses, facilities, practice fields, game fields, weight rooms and playgrounds are CLOSED through the end of the 2019-2020 school year. This is a preventive measure to assist in the coronavirus (COVID-19) containment strategy for our schools and facilities and the recommendation stressed by health officials.

Please partner with us in helping keep our facilities clear of children playing and others congregating. Aledo ISD police officers will be monitoring our campuses and facilities during this time to ensure this measure.
