Senior Trip To Disney, Orlando FL
This week about 215 students accompanied by 22 staff travel to Disney in Orlando for the Senior Trip. It was a week filled with fun, thrills from the many rides at the parks, excitement to be with friends, and very hot weather! Throughout the week, the synergy of GCIT's staff was on full display. It started with the exceptional organization of the trip by our class advisors: Sara Ruczynski, Christina Smyth, John March, and Katie Knoblock. They thought of and planned every detail of the trip to ensure that all the students had the best time! My sincere thanks to these amazing educators who continue to go above and beyond to ensure that our students continue to have an unforgettable senior trip each year. Many students commented that it was the best week of their lives!
The advisors would not be able to do such an amazing job without the chaperones on the trip. The outstanding teamwork observed by our staff on this trip is the dream of any school administrator, and I am so thankful and appreciative of their professionalism, collaboration, and dedication to our school community! My immense thanks to the chaperones on the senior trip this year for their phenomenal work - Kevin Campbell, Doreen Mancini, Katie Knoblock, Katie Arnold, Dale McIntyre, Deneen Clark, Sarah Ruczynski, Kevin Heck, Christina Smyth, Ron Wenzel, Carl Heil, Summer Smith, John March, Ryan Hoolahan, Jessica Damminger, Jim Connor, Elena Sima, Cherise Hasko, Heather Worthington, Joe Jacob, and SRO Ed Siebert.
Special thanks also to the nurse who accompanied us on the trip, Nina Rai, for working with me to care for our students.
I also want to acknowledge our amazing seniors who went on the trip. They were so well behaved and respectful that everywhere we went I received multiple compliments on how exceptional a group of kids they are - from staff and random guests at the hotel, to the flight attendants - they all gave very positive feedback on the behavior of our students! At the end of one of the return flights, the flight crew was so impressed that they played the graduation song (Pomp and Circumstance) to wish the students a great graduation in a few weeks! While we were all very tired at the end of the trip, it was definitely an awesome and successful senior trip with great laughs, fun, and exceptional teamwork! My heart swells with pride to be a part of such wonderful students and staff!
Thanks also to those who were not in attendance but made this trip possible in one way or the other - GCIT School Board, Superintendent Mike Dicken, Assistant Superintendents - Brian Shakespeare and Amy Capriotti, building administrators, Nurse's office staff, main office support staff, and all our senior parents! Your continued support to our students and staff is greatly appreciated! Thank You!!
Below are a few photos from the trip.
GCIT's Dance Alumni Visits Dance Program
This week Nadja Hayes (class of 2017) came back to the GCIT dance studios to share her professional dance experiences with the junior and freshmen dancers. Nadja made her Broadway debut in "The Wiz" at the end of May and is currently performing as an ensemble member in the production. Additionally, she has extensive experience in the commercial dance scene, performing in the Superbowl (Shakira), Grammy’s (Missy Elliott), Coachella (Lil Uzi Vert), and has appeared on TV. She was able to share her experiences about the industry with the students, what it is like to work with a talent agent, and the differences between the east and west coast dance scenes.

Spanish Trip
Today I took my Spanish II and III students to an authentic Mexican Restaurant (La Esperanza) where the students got to sample traditional Mexican food including cactus and mole. While the students were on the trip, they had to order everything in Spanish and were not able to use English. The students were immersed in the language, culture and enjoyed a lot of delicious food! We really had a great time!!!
