A WORD FROM MR. GUY
Hello Wolf Pup parents!
Thank you to everyone who came to our Intermediate Concert on Thursday. I was thrilled with our kid’s performance, especially our state song! A huge thank you to Mrs. Adams for all of her hard work making sure our concert was a success. We will have our primary concert next Thursday at 2pm. Like the intermediate concert, we will have a dress rehearsal at 10 am.
With our delightful weather lately we have seen our snow melt significantly, however, we are still requiring boots and snow pants. Boots can be rubber or winter boots, and snow pants can also be rain pants if kids have them. We will continue to require boots and snow/rain pants until the fields are dry. This is because many of our students enjoy playing on the ground, puddle stomping, or sliding when playing soccer. We want students to be able to remove their wet outer layer when they return to class and still have dry clothes underneath.
I am happy to report that we completed our AK STAR testing on Wednesday. I want to thank all of our students and staff for being so flexible as we ran different schedules during testing. I also want to thank Mrs. Brashear who coordinated the testing for our entire building. In a weird quirk, we also got last year’s AK STAR results the same day we finished our testing for this year. We typically get these results in the fall, but the results were pushed back due to a change in the cut scores (we had the highest cut score in the nation for one of our elementary grade levels). The new cut scores kept us in the top 1/3 of cut scores for our nation. In 2021-22 we had 30% of students proficient in ELA and 41% in Math. In 2022-23 we had 35% of students proficient in ELA and 44% in Math. We also got the results of our science test. In 2021-22 we had 46% proficient and 2022-23 we had 54% proficient in science. I’m thrilled to see improvement in all three sets of test scores. I hope to see continued growth when we get this year's test results in the fall.

Lovin the t-shirt weather!
Intermediate Concert
Congratulations to our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade Wolf Pups for putting on an amazing concert this week! We are so proud of all the students who worked so hard to learn the songs, dances, and instruments that made it such a fun and enjoyable event! Super fun musical pieces had all of us tapping our feet, and feeling that happy spring vibe! I for one have never heard that many ukuleles playing at once! Wow!! A HUGE thanks to Mrs. Adams for all her hard work in bringing music to our school, and into our children's lives! We can't wait to see what our K-2nd graders have in store for us next week at their concert!

We have started a new, school-wide, positive behavior rewards and attendance program!
Students are recognized for acts of kindness, good deeds, and helpful and positive behavior. When a student is recognized as a "Pawsitive Pup" they will get a small prize, their name up on a bulletin board for a month, a mention in the weekly newsletter, and a call home from school staff to share the good news with their parents and caregivers. They will also win entry to an exclusive Wolf Pup Super Star themed party, thrown at the beginning of each month!
If you like the sound of this program, please us help fund it! We will need help purchasing the prizes and supplies for the parties. Please consider donating to the Donor's Choose project for it linked below!

Calling all volunteers! Are you looking for a meaningful way to make a difference? Look no further. Volunteering on the executive board is an incredible opportunity to actively engage in your child’s educational journey and support our school community. Potential positions needed include President, President Elect, Vice President, Treasurer, Treasurer Elect, and Secretary. Contact PTA today to learn more about this exciting volunteer opportunity at woodriverpta@gmail.com.
A good way to connect with your kids is to bring out board games on cozy Friday nights or over the weekend. Your kids get big benefits out of this special family time. In addition to teaching them about teamwork, patience, and how to win and lose gracefully, board games can actually benefit kids' brains and language development. See below for all the benefits board games can bring to your kids!
