January 2025 Newsletter
Dear Davis Families,
Happy New Year! I hope you’ve had a wonderful winter break filled with joy and relaxation. We are excited to welcome everyone back to school on Monday, January 6th, and look forward to an incredible start to the new semester! As we begin the second semester, I want to take a moment to share my excitement for all the opportunities and growth that await us. This semester brings a fresh start and new possibilities for learning, achievement, and community building.
I’m thrilled to share that we’ll kick things off with a school-wide review of our Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) framework. At the heart of this framework are our 4 B’s:
- Being Safe
- Being Respectful
- Being Responsible
- Being Kind
During the first week back, each grade level will participate in an in-school field trip designed to explore what the 4 B’s look like in action. Students will visit various areas of the campus, such as the playground, hallways, and cafeteria, where our staff will model positive behaviors. At each station, adults will demonstrate, answer questions, and provide clarity to ensure every student understands how these principles guide our daily interactions. Additionally, we will continue to emphasize the values of In Lak'ech, embracing the idea that “you are my other me” and reinforcing the importance of connection and community.
Here are a few important reminders for January:
- Attendance: Regular attendance is essential for success. Please ensure your child arrives on time each day, ready to learn. The first bell rings at 8:30 a.m. The tardy bell rings at 8:35 a.m.
- Weather: With cooler temperatures, please send your child with a jacket or sweater labeled with their name.
- Class Pictures: Class pictures will take place on January 15th. More details will be shared closer to the date and on Class Dojo. - Use the calendar to select dates and the drop-down for the reason for the absence.
- You may also add notes or upload a doctor's note and hit "save".

Support Learning at Home
To help your child continue building skills outside of school, here are a few key strategies:
- Daily Reading: Encourage your child to read for at least 20 minutes every evening to strengthen literacy skills and develop a love for reading.
- Utilize I-Ready and Imagine: Log in through CLEVER to access engaging activities that reinforce skills in both Literacy and Math.
- Skill Mastery Goals: Aim to master two skills per week in each subject to see significant growth and progress.
- Need Help with CLEVER? If you need support with logging into CLEVER from home, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your child’s teacher for assistance.
Your encouragement and support at home play a vital role in your child’s academic success. Thank you for being our partner in learning!

Tax Credit
Now through April 15th, 2025, you can take advantage of the Arizona Public School Tax Credit to pay the income tax you owe directly to Davis Bilingual Magnet. In the state of Arizona, you get your tax credit contribution back subject to the limits of your tax liability.
What should I mark when I make my donation online?
We are especially grateful for donations marked “Undesignated,” as that allows us to put your donation towards a specialist position on our campus (P.E., Garden, Art, etc). Thank you for supporting us as we raise funds to keep these important positions.
What if I already made a payment for Extended Day?
Many of you made a payment for Extended Day. Kindly note that you may be able to take advantage of the federal Child and Dependent Care Credit, as Extended Day supports parents who pay for childcare so that they may work outside of the home. Please consult your tax professional for more details. This may allow you to make an additional contribution to Davis (in addition to Extended Day) and claim the Arizona tax credit, for up to $400, per the information above.
