We are excited for Kerby Farms tonight! Please see the information below and we hope to see you there for some great family time.

This has been a fun "Peace Week" at Riverview in which we have talked about being kind and a being good friend, and also how to respond to any behavior that appears to be "bullying." The kids have completed some wonderful activities and have had great conversations. Thank you for sending such AMAZING kids to us. We couldn't do it without your support!

Join us TONIGHT, October 4th from 5:30-7:30 at Kerby Farms for our annual PTA sponsored Fall Festival. This popular event includes a zip line, slides, corn maze, hayride and more! Admission is free for all Riverview Elementary School students and immediate family members (additional family members may attend as well upon paying the entry fee). We will be collecting hygiene and non-perishable food donations at the entrance for Shawnee Community Services. We look forward to seeing you there, and appreciate your help with supporting this local organization!

Retake photos are scheduled for October 23rd for anyone who missed getting their pictures taken or for those who would like their photos retaken.

Below is information on how to order your school photos.

Thank you everyone who contributed either by donating snacks or donating your time, we appreciate you always. 💙❤️Wednesday our Staff Appreciation team set up a beautiful charcuterie display for the staff to snack on while they met with families. Then on Thursday the PTA paid for a food truck so staff could enjoy a yummy lunch between conferences.

To honor those who have served/are serving in the armed forces, our school is planning the annual assembly for veterans. Our Veteran’s Day Assembly will recognize our vets on Monday, November 11th at 9:30. In the past, we have had a slideshow honoring the vets closest to us at Riverview. All students are encouraged to send in pictures (digital or paper) of a relative or close friend of the family to be included. Your vet does not have to attend to be included.

Paper pictures will be returned after they are scanned. If you choose to send a paper copy; please make sure there is identifying information either in the form of a post it or written directly on the

picture.

If pictures were in the slideshow last year…they will automatically be included. If you have any updates such as dates of service, Kindergarten siblings to add etc...….you are welcome to send those. Please fill out the form and send it along with your labeled picture/email by Thursday, October 17th.

Any digital picture submissions please send to Traci Seyb: tseyb@usd232.org with the information below typed out in the body of the email.

If your student is bringing a veteran to honor, please consider having them utilize the introduction template. This will help guide students with what to say when introducing their special guest.

Please send the introduction template with your student or veteran on the day of. We want you to have the opportunity to practice at home.

This month our character trait focus is on Kindness. We are using a movie theme for this year’s Peace Week. Lights, Camera, Kindness. We will be learning and talking about ways to show kindness to ourselves and others. Lessons will focus on being kind and bully-free. Our world needs more kindness. Our definition of kindness is acting with understanding, generosity, and care.

At home have the conversation about what kindness means to you. The following activities are ways to focus on kindness at home:

1. Kindness Jar: Create a jar where family members can add notes about kind acts they’ve done or witnessed. Read then together at the end of each month.
2. Compliment Challenge: Each family member takes turns giving genuine compliments to everyone else. It’s a great way to boost confidence and spread positivity,
3. Kindness Walk: Go for a family walk and look for opportunities to spread kindness, like picking up trash, complementing people, or helping someone with groceries.
4. Gratitude Practice: Each night at dinner, share one thing you appreciated about someone else in the family. It fosters gratitude and kindness.

Are you a parent that would like to come eat lunch with your child? Due to limited space in the lunchroom, we are asking that you sign up before coming so we can accommodate everyone. Please see the link below to sign up while spots are available. On another note, if your time slot is filled and it is your child's birthday (or grandma/grandpa are in town on a day not available) please let us know in the office!

Now that school is underway and everyone is hard at work, we hope you will check out your student’s classroom wish list and consider donating items needed for a great year. We have also gathered lists of all of the RE staff’s favorite things if you would like to show your appreciation throughout the year.

If you would like to support our school we would love you as a sponsor! Funds raised through sponsorships will benefit various items throughout the school year like events, field trips, and educational apps.

As a PTA, our ability to provide support for Riverview students and families comes from the generosity of those who volunteer to chair or serve on committees, as well as coordinate events and projects. We invite you to join our PTA community and volunteer, whether a contribution of time and/or talent, every bit helps build successful experiences for our school.
