The C.A.R.E.S Chronicles is a Bibb County’s monthly Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education newsletter. This newsletter will allow us to keep all of our stakeholders informed of the positive initiatives going on in Bibb County School District’s CTAE department. Our goal is to produce students who are college and career-ready by ensuring that all students are equipped to compete in an emerging 21st century.

Hutchings College and Career Academy Opens Salon 360
The W.S. Hutchings College and Career Academy announced the opening of Salon 360, a full-service, student-run operation that offers a variety of services at affordable prices. First and second year cosmetology students demonstrate their creativity and skills learned in their CTAE pathway. Salon360 offers services Wednesday-Friday from 8:00-9:30 AM and 12:00-1:45 PM. A licensed cosmetology instructor supervise all services. Salon360 looks forward to servicing the community with unparalleled talent and a unique experience. Georgia Foundation for Agriculture awards $1,000 to Heard Elementary
The Georgia Foundation for Agriculture (GFA) has presented a $1,000 grant to Heard Elementary School (HES) for its AG education program. HES is one of 26 elementary schools across Georgia selected to participate in a pilot program to introduce AG education to elementary students.

Baucom presented the grant in January at the Georgia Vocational Agriculture Teachers Association Mid-Winter Conference.
Hutchings College and Career Academy Hospitality Pathway Welcomes the President & CEO of Georgia's Cherry Blossom Festival
The Hospitality, Tourism and Recreation Pathway invited Stacy Moore, President and CEO of Georgia's International Cherry Blossom Festival, to come and speak to the class. This Spring, marks the 39th year of the Pinkest Party On Earth. Mrs. Moore educated the students on all the festival activities that takes place in and around Macon during that week. Many of the students were not aware of the other activities that took place outside of Central City Park. Mrs. Moore explained to them how the festival came about and the history behind the Cherry Blossom trees and also told them about the incoming festival chair being Dr. Ivan Allen, president of Central Georgia Technical College. Lastly, she explained how much revenue the festival generates in helping the tourism industry of Macon. This festival generates revenue for hotels, restaurants and shopping not only in downtown but also in the surrounding counties.

Westside High Students Participate in Job Shadow Day
Westside High School students participated in Job Shadow Day in honor of CTAE Month. Students spent a day observing professionals on the job. While job shadowing, they had the opportunity to learn about different jobs which helps to guide collegiate decisions and long term career goals. Many, many thanks to the community partners that helped to make this day a success!

Hutchings College and Career Academy Culinary Students Win Gold!
W.S. Hutchings College and Career Academy (HCCA) hosted the regional culinary competition. Culinary teams from 4 districts participated in a 3-man cooking competition. Teams were given 20 minutes for set-up and an hour to prepare their dishes. Competitors were judged on sanitation, production, communication, creativity, and etc. This year, HCCA's Culinary Team won first place (Gold) and will advance to the state level to represent the region in March. In 2016, the HCCA Culinary Team advanced to the national level under the guidance of HCCA's Executive Chef Stuart Hardy.

Heard Elementary School Celebrates Farm City Week with the Georgia Farm Bureau
Mr. Gerald Long, Georgia Farm Bureau President, helped celebrate Ag Literacy during Farm City Week at Heard Elementary. Mr. Long read a story to the kindergarten and first grade classes. Additionally, students learned about farm life as Ms. Baker and Mr. Long shared information about their farms in Tennessee and Bainbridge, Georgia, respectively. In turn, the kindergarten classes shared their favorite farm song with Mr. Long, Farmin’ and Football, by the Peterson Brothers. Each student received a sticker, which stated "If you ate 3 times a day… THANK A FARMER!"

FBLA & HOSA Members Volunteer for the Salvation Army
Southwest High FBLA and Northeast HS HOSA members and advisors rang the iconic red kettle during the holiday season to raise funds for the Salvation Army. Volunteer bell ringers are the difference between an empty kettle and one that raises the funds that sustain the help we give all year long. The Salvation Army relies on money raised in red kettles to serve thousands of families in our local community and more than 25 million people in the United States each year.

Each December on National Wreaths Across America Day, the mission to Remember, Honor and Teach is carried out by coordinating wreath-laying ceremonies at Arlington National Cemetery, as well as at more than 2,100 additional locations in all 50 U.S. states, at sea and abroad. Central's JROTC unit participated in this event locally by laying wreaths at Macon's historic Riverside Cemetery.

SkillsUSA Region 5 Competition took place on January 23, 2020 at Southern Crescent Technical College in Griffin. Several students from Hutchings College and Career Academy (HCCA) will attend State competition to observe and support the advancing teams.
