Dear Parents/Guardians:
What an awesome and incredible school year! There are still some really great things to come, but the 2023-24 school year is coming to a close in 17 school days!
As we approach the end of another incredible school year, it's a moment to reflect on the journey we've embarked on together. Despite some of the challenges and uncertainties, we've stood strong, united in our commitment to education and growth.
To our students, your curiosity, creativity, and hard work have been truly inspiring. You've embraced new ways of learning, tackled obstacles with determination, and continued to strive for excellence. Your accomplishments, both big and small, have filled us with immense pride.
We extend our deepest gratitude to the parents and guardians who have been our partners in education every step of the way. Your support, patience, and collaboration have been invaluable, ensuring that our students receive the best possible education.
Wishing you all a joyful and restful summer break. May it be filled with laughter, adventure, and moments of pure joy. We look forward to welcoming you back refreshed and ready for new adventures in the upcoming school year.

Monthly Character Trait Awards
March
Every month an assembly is held to explain to students the meaning of a particular character trait and provide an example of how to carry out that trait in a positive manner. The "Character Trait" for March was "Self-Discipline". At the end of the month of March students in each classroom that best represented that particular character trait will be recognized and given a certificate. Kids n Kops Lunches
April
During the months of January, February, March and April, students in grades 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 have the opportunity to attend lunch here at U.C. with Dr. McGinty, a Cornwall Lebanon School district Police Officer and a North Lebanon Police Officer. McDonalds in Myerstown provides the lunch. The students can ask the police officers questions about the job and their experiences.. The student is chosen (1 boy and 1 girl from each class room) based on “The 3 A’s” positive attitude, a satisfactory attendance record, and academic achievement during the school year. The photograph below shows the students who had lunch during the April luncheon with Officer Wendell Hannaford from Cornwall Lebanon School District, and Dr. McGinty, Principal of Union Canal. The students in the photo below are: Kayden McMinn, Alejandro Mojica, Briana Acosta, Emery Myers, Anika Deshpande and Tanner Bixler.
Chorus Concert
Union Canal held it's Annual Spring Chorus Concert on the evening of May 1st. It was a full house as usual. Below are some pictures of this wonderful event. Thanks to Mr. Dave Breidenstine for making all of this possible!
Falcon's Connect -Free Summer Program
Falcons Connect is a free summer program for all our CLSD K-8th grade students and their families. For the past two summers, it’s been a fantastic time to get together with school friends and make new ones in a relaxed format at a park near you!
This summer, we’re excited to return to South Hills, Lions Lake, Gloninger Park, and Ironwood. We’ll also be at Union Canal Elementary School playground.

Raven Ridge Assembly
Raven Ridge is a non-profit wildlife rehabilitation center in Washington Boro, PA specializing in healing injured birds of prey, mammals, and waterfowl in the Lancaster County area.
They held a one hour assembly for all U.C. students with a little bit of everything from PA reptiles to mammals and birds of prey. They talked about how they acquired these animals as ambassadors, and how they are beneficial for the environment. They also shared some neat facts and misconceptions about some of these creatures. Below are a few pictures from the assembly in April.

Be a Guest Teacher
Join Our Team: Be a Guest Teacher in CLSD Schools
Have you ever thought about a career in education? Do you hold a bachelor’s degree? Guest Teaching might be just what you are looking for to increase your income while maintaining a flexible schedule. As a substitute teacher in the Cornwall-Lebanon School DIstrict, you can earn $155/day ($165/day for emotional or autistic support classrooms). Monthly bonuses are possible, too!
Lancaster-Lebanon IU13 offers a Guest Teacher Training program that is designed to provide participants with limited or no classroom experience with the necessary training to qualify as day-to-day substitutes. Individuals who have earned a bachelor’s degree in any content area and wish to serve as a day-to-day substitute teacher are encouraged to enroll in the program.
The Guest Teacher Training is done in two parts: online training and one on-site training day from 8 AM to 4 PM. (Lunch will be provided.)
Each Guest Teacher exits the training program with the basic skills and resources to be a substitute teacher and will be issued an emergency teaching permit from the PA Department of Education (PDE).

PTT Fundraiser Night
Help raise money for the U.C. PTT and enjoy dinner at the Gin Mill on May 21st from 5:00 PM to 8:30 PM.

• Thank an Educator: For Teacher Appreciation Week, consider recognizing your student’s special teachers, staff members, or coaches with a Certificate of Appreciation by donating to the Falcon Foundation through the “Thank an Educator” program. Falcons for Families
FALCONS FOR FAMILIES-For an appointment to shop for FREE clothing, school supplies, and toiletries in the Falcons for Families closet, send an email to falcons4families@clsd.k12.pa.us. Please include your name, preferred day and time, phone number, and your child’s name and school. The closet is located at Cedar Crest High School and is open to any family with a student enrolled in the district. Appointments are only available during school hours.
Falcons For Families is accepting donations of gently used clothing to provide to students and families who are in need. Donations can be dropped off at the CCHS Counseling Office during school hours, or email ecallihan@clsd.k12.pa.us to make arrangements for drop-off. We have a current need for sweatpants in all sizes.
Donations of new, unopened toiletries are also accepted (no travel/sample sizes please). Frequently requested items are shampoo/conditioner, body wash, deodorant, toothpaste/toothbrushes, and feminine hygiene products. Household items such as laundry detergent and toilet paper are also frequently requested. If you have a community group or organization who is interested in partnering with Falcons For Families to collect donations, please have them contact Erin Callihan, District Social Worker.
