(Please see below for an example of two types of clothing and the two logo options.)
Orange Shirt Day
A big thank-you to Lynn Arcand, who joined us on Orange Shirt Day, to share her story (with the Div 2 students) as an Indian Day School survivor.
Lynn's story touched many hearts, and helped us understand her experience from when she was a child.
School Photos
Our school's proofs are now online and available for parents to view and order online.
Parents have until October 15th to receive a discount on shipping direct to their home. After that, they can still order, but would pay full price for shipping to home. As always, parents can contact the photographers directly at 780-944-0800 or info@smartphotography.ca and they will be happy to help with any questions or requests for information.
2024 Bear Tracks Ice Melter Fundraiser
It's back! Kinosayo Parents Association is excited to be bringing back the Bear Track Ice Melt Fundraiser! Last year we sold 305 pails and raised over $3,500 for the KPA to purchase items for Kinosayo!
BEAR TRACKS ice melter provides a safe and efficient way to melt ice and compacted snow on sidewalks and driveways. It is a useful product for both residential and commercial areas to ensure that traffic areas are kept ice free and safe for pedestrians. Bear Tracks Ice Melter is pet friendly, fast acting, long lasting, highly visible blue marker and safe on concrete and vegetation.
Bear Tracks Ice Melter is $30 for a 16 kg/35lb pail
Forms are being sent home, so check your kiddos backpack, find it attached below, or order online HERE! Order form return deadline is Monday, November 2, 2024.
EMT's can be sent to keenofundraising@gmail.com (Please include your child's name, class and # of pails ordered in the email!)
We will also be having a school challenge!
When the school sells the below amounts, everyone will receive the following:
- $2,000 - Hot Chocolate for the entire school
- $4,000 - One day with 30 minutes of extra recess
- $6,000 - A Toboggan & Skating Party
PLUS, the class that sells the most pails, wins a pizza party!
Happy Thanksgiving & thank you for supporting the KPA!
Inquiry Corner
At the end of September, teaching staff had a one hour virtual session with Trevor MacKenzie to talk about the fourth characteristic of an inquiry classroom, "Foster curiosity and a love of learning". It was an amazing session with deep learning and practical application strategies!
Specifically, we talked about how to build engagement and curiosity through the use of provocations. Then staff had time to collaboratively think of ways they can use provocations with their classes.
We learned that when planning for curiosity, it is important to consider students and their identities, experiences, and stories. Consider how to make connections and entry points to the curriculum. Think of provocations in a variety of ways such as contextual, relatability, awe-inspiring. Also consider the community, places and the setting for our students' lives. Then it is important to observe and collect the questioning and curiosity of the students to help plan next steps in learning.
Between now and our next session with Trevor Mackenzie, teachers will be developing and collaborating on how to foster curiosity in their classrooms. We will use our PD/Staff meeting days to share with each other, collaborate, and continue to learn. Our support staff--having less past experience with inquiry--will be working through a set of activities and lessons to identify how to best support in an inquiry classroom.
