Eckville Elementary News - Parents
December 2024
This is the monthly Principal's message and newsletter. It is a way to keep parents engaged and informed with what is happening at Eckville Elementary. It is sent out each month via email and is available on our website.
Principal's Message
Last week was a long one and November was a busy month that flew right by us! It was great to have so much going on and I heard a lot of positives throughout the school, all week long. Thank you to everyone for your support with our November assembly, online fundraisers, the book fair, parent-teacher interviews and our school council meeting; all last week!
And then it was December! We can't wait to have you in the school to see our performance with Trickster Theatre on Thursday, December 12! Details below!
The days are getting into the shortest ones of the year and driving to and from work in the dark is hard. I always try to get out into the sunshine during these weeks and it's getting warmer too, which will make this much more possible and enjoyable. Three quick weeks and we will be on our Christmas Holidays!
Stay safe everyone!
-Mr. Jay Cottell
Growing Smiles and Purdys Winter Fundraisers
The Growing Smiles Winter Fundraiser plant order pick-up is set for December 5. Thank you for your support!
We also held a PURDYS CHOCOLATES fundraiser! If you haven't picked up your order, please stop by the school before Mr. Reimer and Mr. Cottell get too hungry!
Winter Weather
I know the next two weeks are warmer but...
The days are getting colder and students need to be prepared for outdoor recesses. Please ensure students have appropriate winter clothing. Indoor recesses will be held when the temperature outside is below -25 C.
Students of the Month & Academic Excellence - November
Students of the Month and Academic Excellence winners all enjoy Pizza with the Principals! We had our assembly on Monday, November 25 and then pizza together at noon on Tuesday, November 26.

School Visitors - Check In at Main Office
Just a reminder to everyone that all school visitors need to check in at the main office. When students are being picked up early, please come to the office and let us know, then we can call or walk down to the classroom. This helps limit classroom disruptions and lets us ensure we know who are always in the building as visitors, in case of an emergency.
Grade 6 Fundraisers
A Message From Mr. Libby:
Hello Parents and/or Guardians,
First of all, THANK YOU for your support of the November Gr 6 Fundraisers!
- November 15 - Breakfast Sandwiches for ALL
- November 28 - Canteen - chips, chocolate bars, pop
I can report that last week's canteen was very successful -- we raised almost $500.00 and we have also received some funds from the bottle depot. I believe our total funds are now around $1500.00, but exact numbers will follow! Our December canteen will probably have a smaller profit, since our canteen supplies must now be replenished! We have sold out of almost everything.
Let's turn our attention to your best Christmas baking and our Christmas Trickster Theatre Performance, which will be on Thursday, December 12th at 6:30 pm. Please send a plate or two of your best Christmas fare to the school by 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 12th, when parent volunteers will sort it into the best bake-sale you have ever seen in your life!
AND, please remind all grandparents and rich aunties and uncles to bring CASH with them to our CHRISTMAS PERFORMANCE WITH TRICKSTER THEATRE!
CHRISTMAS CANTEEN - FRIDAY, DECEMBER 20

THANK YOU TO OUR SCHOOL COUNCIL FOR COORDINATING THESE AWESOME LUNCHES!!!
THANK YOU - Parent Teacher Interviews
Thank you to everyone who was able to make it out and connect with teachers. We appreciate your engagement in your child's education and hope you were able to log into the Parent Portal and review assignments up to the end of November.
THANK YOU - Book Fair
Thank you to everyone who supported out Scholastic Book Fair fundraiser! Book Fair purchases help us to add new books to our library and replace books that are worn out. We always encourage students to take care of books but we are also happy to see that we have worn out books that are well read!
One student from each class in Gr 1-6 won $10 in the book fair and one lucky Gr 5 student won $20.
Our big draw winner for $25 in books for himself and for his classroom was... Briggs Wood! Congratulations Briggs!
THANK YOU - No Secrets and iRespect Myself
No Secrets is a peronsal safety presentation that was delivered in Grades K-4 in late November. Thank you to our presenters who were engaging with students and shared a very important message.
