Dear Monomoy Middle School Families,
As we wrap up the first month of school, it is exciting to reflect on the progress our students have made in learning new people, routines, and expectations. They have quickly they've settled into their classrooms and learning environments. As we move into October, we know that the initial excitement of a new school year may start to fade. As it is within the natural flow of things, it is important to support our students in maintaining positive work routines and habits. This year, we are focusing on executive functioning skills, such as organization, time management, and accountability. By helping our students develop these skills early in the school year, we can set them up for academic success and create confidence in themselves as learners that will keep them motivated to come to school.
In partnership,
Abby Dudley
Principal
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Club Update: Unfortunately Walking Club, Homework Club, and Cursive/Letter Writing will be discontinued due to consistently low attendance. Clubs require minimum attendance of 8 students to continue to run. Students in these clubs are welcome to join elsewhere. Fashion Club will not meet this Monday, but will resume for the remainder of the club session.
School Safety: Thank you to Sgt. Massey, Chatham Fire Department Deputy Chief and MRSD School Committee member Ryan Clarke, and Dr. Dutch for hosting our student safety presentations this week on run-hide-fight drills. The students were attentive and asked great questions. Additionally, the district held our Parent University on School Safety this week, during which we shared information about the safety measures we have in place and the drills that occur in our schools. If you missed this event, you can find the presentation and recording on our website here.
7th Grade Success Lunch: A reminder to 7th grade students and families that Success Lunch will begin this week. This program is designed to support student's academic success by building accountability for work to keep everyone in good academic standing as they practice skills that will support as they move to the high school and beyond.
Costume Social 10/25! Mark your calendars for our annual Costume Social. Students in all grades are invited to attend this event that is being hosted by the class of 2026! 5th grade students will attend from 5-6:30 and 6th and 7th grade students will attend from 6:45-8:15. There is a suggested donation of $5 at the door and snacks will be on sale. All proceeds will go directly to the class of 2026.
TikTok Trend: Every so often an online trend has an impact on us at school. On Friday, we spoke with students about a trend taking and selling parts of zippers off others' backpacks. We encouraged students to continue to be independent thinkers as we understand that the influence social media can have on students at our developmental level.
