Lockdown Drill
Each year our schools conduct safety drills. Most of you are familiar with Fire Safety and Severe Weather drills. Fire and safety drills are conducted each month and severe weather drills occur in the fall and spring during Wisconsin’s storm seasons. Schools and communities must be prepared for a variety of emergency situations and so we also take time to practice drills where a threat to student and/or safety in the building has occurred.
You may recall the District has worked in collaboration with local law enforcement agencies and in 2015 adopted ALICE response protocol which is a proactive approach to responding to a situation that may threaten the safety of those in our building. In 2019, we added the Standard Response Protocol (SRP) responses to our student safety training and drills.
This letter is to inform you that your student will be learning the 5 possible actions that can be taken during a crisis or emergency management event. These four main drills include:
Hold
Secure
Lockdown
Evacuate
Shelter
More information on these procedures can be accessed here Parent Handout (handout was sent home at the beginning of the year). You can also view videos and additional information on the i love you guys foundation website.
On October 10, we will conduct a lockdown drill at P.J. Jacobs Junior High School. The drill is required by law for all students in Wisconsin. Students and teachers will practice the procedures for Lockdown. The drill will be conducted in a fashion similar to tornado and fire drills.
It is strongly encouraged that you also review these procedures at home with your child as well as what you may do at home if an emergency situation should happen there. Furthermore, it is important that children memorize their address and phone numbers in case of a crisis situation.
We take the safety and security of your child very seriously. The entire staff at Stevens Point Area Public School District has been educated and trained in a variety of situations and will be prepared to make prompt and responsible decisions should an emergency situation occur.
Thank you in advance for your help and cooperation. We appreciate your support as we work hard to establish the most effective means of keeping our students and staff safe. Please do not hesitate to call me if you have any questions at 715-345-5422 or email me at jknecht@pointschools.net.
Sincerely,
Jennifer Knecht, Principal

If You Give a Mouse a Cookie...
...it might just take over PJ Jacobs.
While PJ Jacobs custodians work diligently to keep the old building of PJ's a clean place, if your student is keeping open snacks in their locker, it might not be enough to keep mice or pests away. Families are asked to remind students to not keep any open food or open snacks lockers as this can attract unwanted smells and critters. We have found that some boxes of snacks have even been chewed through. Please help in keeping students safe and the mice away by encouraging students to keep their perishables in lunch boxes or Tupperware. Thank you!

The Stevens Point Police Department (SPPD) will be leading the session, focusing on online safety from a law enforcement perspective.
With the growing influence of social media and online interactions, it’s more important than ever to understand the potential risks children face in the digital world.
