Message from our President
Dear Fellow Rotarians:
Welcome to autumn in the desert! The weather is noticeably cooler, the days are shorter and the buzz of holidays are in the air. Our club is in full swing! Interact is fully underway, thanks to Jackie Chatman, this years Chair. Interact students are in great hands with some awesome projects and opportunities. Alan Ochsenbein, 4 Way Test Competition Chair and Yessinia Preciado, Vocational Chair, have teamed up the Interact Club to further along their projects.
We are planning the start of EarlyAct for this coming January. A bit late, but so be it in the world of COVID. The Early Act clubs at each elementary school will pool their resources and ideas and come up with some great projects.
Happy Healthy Halloween will take on a different venue this year. Still wary of large groups in the time of COVID, our club has decided to celebrate in a much smaller way, Interact students and Rotarians will be together and share some healthy fun on the 31st. Please come and support our club and have a spooktacular time. Details and flyer to follow.
Lunch meetings with speakers are well attended. We have had some wonderful speakers this past month . I do need ideas and suggestions for future speakers. Do you know of a person, organization or subject you would like to see? Contact Brian or Ruby with your suggestions.
Past President Ed Molloy’s demotion party was a hit! It was well attended. Fun was had by all. Thanks go out to those who participated in the planning and its implementation. Now on to Immediate Past President Jeff Hohman’s demotion party. We look forward to another fun time.
Our club has had a few new members join in the last few months, with several on the cusp of joining as we speak. Please make it a point to welcome those new members, as well as guests, at our lunch meetings. Do you enjoy our club? Tell others about it. Remember, each member should bring JUST 1 new member into the fold.
As President, one of my goals is to look for and foster members to be future leaders in our club, as well as Rotary in general . Being on a committee, chairing a committee, joining the Board, being President is all so very rewarding. Keep your eyes open, I might tap you on the shoulder with a request to do any of these things!
Lastly, I want to mention that the Rotary theme for the month of October is Economic and Community Development. Despite what the political rhetoric might suggest, we know that we are privileged to live in one of the wealthiest and most economically prosperous countries in the world. We should also be very aware, however, of the reality that in our own country and backyard, poverty and struggle exists. As Rotarians here in Desert Hot Springs, we do our best to help with financial burdens by raising money for scholarships, community projects and educational programs. Thank you all for what you do.
Always in Rotary Service
Brian Brodowsky,
President DHS Rotary Club
