AISD Nutrition and Food Services

At AISD, our mission is to support the achievement of all students by expanding food access, serving healthy, tasty meals, and providing learning opportunities about nutrition, cultural foodways and the food system.

AISD is committed to reinventing the urban school meal experience and is recognized as a national leader in innovative food services programs. We have made great strides in creating desired dining destinations by implementing innovative approaches to modernize school dining and expand access to healthy meals: Breakfast in the Classroom, after school meals, salad bars, food trucks, family style, dispersed dining, zero-waste, plant-forward and scratch cooking with an emphasis on global flavors.

• As of September 2020, meals will be free for all students through December 2020.

• AISD will continue to provide free meals for any child under 19, or those over the age of 19 who are utilizing special education resources or currently enrolled in school to complete the requirements for a high school diploma at curbside meal sites.

• Children do not have to be enrolled in AISD to pick up curbside meals.

• Meals will be available at 40+ curbside locations throughout the district.

• Each student may pick up one breakfast and one lunch meal during designated meal service hours, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

• Curbside meals will feature foods that are cooked and prepared by staff in Austin ISD kitchens. These meals will be chilled and served cold to be taken home and reheated.

• Meals for children may be provided to parents or caregivers at curbside locations, even when the child is not present, provided they have one of the following forms of documentation at the point of meal service. The documentation can come from a non-AISD school as well.

• Official letter/email from school that shows children as enrolled

• Individual student report cards

• Attendance record from Parent Portal of school website

• Birth certificate for children not in school

• Student ID cards

If the parent does not have documentation, the child must be present to receive a meal.

AISD will continue to provide free, local Farm Fresh Boxes from The Common Market Texas through October 7.

The boxes feature a variety of Texas-grown vegetables and are available at no cost to families with children under the age of 19. Children may accept the boxes, or they will be provided to the adults accompanying children or with documentation of the children they are picking meals up for. Boxes are available until they run out.

Distribution will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m as follows:

• Wednesday, September 9: Dawson Elementary, Galindo Elementary, Linder Elementary, Lively Middle School, St. Elmo Elementary, Travis Early College High School
• Wednesday, September 16: Allison Elementary, Blackshear Elementary, Eastside Memorial Early College High School, Govalle Elementary, Martin Middle School, Metz Elementary
• Wednesday, September 23: Ann Richards School for Young Women Leaders, Crockett Early College High School, Oak Hill Elementary, Odom Elementary, Patton Elementary, Sunset Valley Elementary
• Wednesday, September 30: Akins Early College High School, Casey Elementary, Covington Middle School, Kiker Elementary, Kocurek Elementary, Paredes Middle School
• Wednesday, October 7: Blazier Elementary, Langford Elementary, Perez Elementary, Pleasant Hill Elementary, Rodriguez Elementary, Uphaus Early Childhood Center, Widen Elementary

The Farm Fresh Box program at AISD is made possible through support from the Michael and Susan Dell Foundation.

No documentation is needed for students to receive free meals through December, however schools need information from families, by October 30, to help maintain campus demographic information used for various types of funding.
