Monty Money Winners!
Monty's Corner: Parent/Teacher Conferences and FUN RUN Week!
Tigers,
We have now raised over $30,000 for the FUN RUN! We are at $30,399.00! Parents asked if there is still time to donate and the answer is yes the getmovinfundhub.com website is open for one more week.
Thank you again to the PTO board and all of our parents, guardians, grandparents and extend families who have volunteered to help in so many different ways to make this an incredible experience for all students.
This also means
Next Thursday October 17th will be our Schoolwide PIZZA PARTY at Lunch (please send your child with a drink and sides for lunch)
Friday October 18th is the Taher pizza lunch ( it is not Hungry Howies pizza).
INFLATABLE DAY for the school will be OCTOBER 25th ! A sign up genius will be sent out soon!
Also thank you to our amazing teachers who have been busy this week getting ready for the Fun Run and held conferences this week! It has been a busy week celebrating the academic success of our students and celebrating our community coming together to support our school through fundraising.

Can I bring in birthday treats for my child’s birthday?
We celebrate birthdays at Monteith by giving each student a birthday book and bookmark during their birthday month.
Due to the large number of student allergies, we no longer can allow any type of birthday cakes, cupcakes or cookies in the elementary schools (except for teacher scheduled celebrations) . Please save the present celebrations for home parties. If students want to bring in a small goodie bag of non-edible items ( Ex: pop-its, pencils, etc.) that is allowed but not necessary. If you do send in something with your child it needs to be for the whole class not just a couple students.
Kindness matters at Monteith and Always!

Library News
We are having a great time in the library learning about a variety of topics including the difference between fiction vs. non-fiction, the Dewey Decimal System and Digital Citizenship in all grade levels. Each topic and conversation varies based on grade level. Young 5's also discussed the parts of a book. All of these topics had songs and movement to accompany them, so ask your child to perform the fiction vs. non-fiction rap.
"Non-fiction is not fake, like something that actually happened. Fiction is something that's thought up, invented, or imagined."
Digital Citizenship Week is October 14-18. Here are some great resources on Digital Citizenship from Common Sense Media that you may want to incorporate in your routines at home. https://www.commonsense.org/education/family-resources
Also, consider having a device-free dinner just like the Sesame Street crew. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wQ-RbWAwnx8
Remember to follow the Monteith Library on Instagram to see what we are collaborating on, creating, and exploring!
Art News
Students in Second Grade studied the many Portraits painted by the artist Vincent Van Gogh and the colors and facial expressions which show emotion. We learned how to draw a person using proportion. The face was colored using impressionist lines like Van Gogh used, where the students selected crayons from our multi-cultural crayon box to match our unique skin colors. The backgrounds of our pictures are either in warm or cool colors, just like Van Gogh used.
Sincerely,
Natalie Zoufal
