FCMS EXPRESS
Week of October 28, 2024
From Mr. Liggett:
FCMS Families,
I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the outstanding behavior of our students. They are the reason why we do what we do, and watching them grow and succeed is incredibly rewarding. Our teachers are wholeheartedly dedicated to guiding and supporting each student as they work toward their goals.
Thank you for trusting us to be part of your student’s journey. We are proud of their progress and grateful for the positive, collaborative community we share. We recognize that the middle school years can be some of the most challenging times for our students, and with your continued support, we will keep encouraging and challenging them to make the right choices as they grow. We will continue to celebrate their successes and learn from each experience along the way.

Staff Spotlight
Mrs. Mitchum: Typing Queen
This week’s staff spotlight focuses on Mrs. Mitchum. Mrs. Mitchum teaches computer classes
at Franklin County Middle School.
Mrs. Mitchum has been teaching for 30 years, and she has spent 29 of those years teaching at
Franklin County. She attended Ball State University for her undergrad in Business Education
and Office Administration; and then Indiana Wesleyan for her Masters in Education.
Because of her classroom placement, Mrs. Mitchum doesn’t work with many other
teachers, but she and Mrs. Nobbe have each other's backs. Outside of school, Mrs. Mitchum
likes to play golf and watch her son play soccer. Mrs. Mitchum’s favorite season is summer.
Mrs. Mitchum doesn’t only teach in Franklin County, she’s also lived here since she was five
years old. Mrs. Mitchum’s family is very important to her. Both of her parents taught in the
FCCSC system, and they both still run the SAY Soccer League. She’s married to Terry, the
Chief of Police for the Brookville Police Department. Mrs. Mitchum has four children and one
granddaughter. She also has a dog named Sugar, a Maltese/Shih Tzu who is 11 years old.

FFA
FFA Mystery of the Century
Seven of our FCMS FFA members had a blast solving the Mystery of the Century at our FFA chapter bonding event on October 17. Emma A., Lilliana B., Preston B., Jakob K., Branson M., Lillie R. and Owen Y. enjoyed a great meal and a fun, live game of clue as they worked to solve the crime. Thanks to the officer team at FCHS for planning this event.
INTRO TO AG
We have been learning about plants, flowers and the horticulture industry this month in our ag classes. A huge thank you goes to Cindy Hall from 4 Seasons Florist for donating her time, expertise and resources to our class. She visited us this week and taught the 8th grade Intro to Ag students how to arrange a basic bud vase floral arrangement and they were able to keep their creations.

Author Visit
Michael Spradlin
Franklin County Community School 4th-8th graders had the privilege of traveling to FCHS’s Lew Wallace Auditorium on Tuesday to hear author Michael Spradlin speak. Mr. Spradlin is a New York Times bestselling and Edgar Award-nominated author of over 40 children’s and young adult books.
Mr. Spradlin grew up in a small town, much like Brookville, in Michigan not far from the Indiana border. After multiple childhood dreams, his love of history (especially WWII) and literature (specifically the Hardy Boys mysteries) led him in the direction of becoming a writer. He writes both fiction and nonfiction. He finds the most enjoyment in giving history a voice. One of his most well-known novels is “Into the Killing Seas.” A historical fiction novel based on the sinking of the U.S.S. Indianapolis, and the crew’s fight for their lives amongst shark-infested waters.
His new book, “Rise of the Spider,” also set during WWII, focuses on a young boy growing up in Heroldsberg during the rise of Hitler.
Students learned that dreams can change and lead you to find your passion. He also emphasized that reading helped shape both who he is and how he writes. It allowed him to grow outside of his small, rural town.
FUNDRAISER
FCMS will be starting a fundraiser today. Students will be selling Little Caesar's Pizza kits. The kits will come frozen and the pick up date will be the week of December 2nd (we don't know the exact date until closer to the pick up week). Parents will come pick up their child's orders at FCMS. Please help your children sell items as the money raised will go towards our incentive programs as well as a few other much needed items around our school.
You will be able to order and pay online if that is easier by clicking the button below (our fundraiser id number is: 449620). Any checks should be made payable to FCMS. All order forms will be due back by November 13.
*Top Earner will receive $50.
Next top 3 sellers will each receive $20.
As always, thanks so much for supporting our students and our school!
*Students on social probation may not attend the dance.
*Students attending the football game will be released at 7pm. If you would like to pick up your student before 7 you must come to the door to collect them.
