4th Grade
Dear 4th Grade Families,
Thank you to everyone who was able to participate in MCAs and our other learning activities this week! It was a joy to be with your kids in person!
In writing, we are doing our own research on a historical time period in order to write our own historical fiction stories. By the end of this week, students should have their research done for their setting and have 3 characters planned out. Your child should be able to explain how their historical time period will impact their characters and/or the problems they face in their story. Please talk to your child at home about this over the weekend! Next week, we will be working on our stories.
In math, students are learning to decompose fractions into addition equations and represent those numbers with visuals.
Next week, we will begin a unit about our neighbors in Canada, and students will be creating their own visual presentations based on their research. Keep a look out for my invite to our upcoming publishing parties!
Please contact me any time:

5th Grade
Hello 5th grade families!
This week was full of MCA testing - but it was so great to see so many students in person!
Students are starting a new unit of study where we are getting ready for our next in person field trip - Bdote. We will be learning about Dakota history here in St Paul as well as the sacred sites for the Dakota people. Students will be reading, researching, and writing about what they learn - make sure to ask them about it!
In math, students are working on dividing fractions and mixed numbers before we enter shapes and angles at the later part of the year.
Please be checking your student’s seesaw on Fridays, making sure there is nothing in their to do or draft folders.

Next week, April 16th 6:00-8:00, there will be an SPPS art event downtown St. Paul at the Landmark Center. A flyer with more information will be sent out to all families from the school. Car Seat Clinic
April 22 4:30-8pm @ St. Paul Police West District Station (389 Hamline Ave. N.)
SPPD is offering a car seat clinic. This is great for expecting parents, parents concerned their kids have outgrown their current seat, are in need of a booster, or grandparents who may be helping. The law changed in 2024, and many people are not aware that children now need to be in a booster longer. 60% of car seats are installed incorrectly so it is important to get them checked. Pre-registration Required: Email: sppd-carseatsafety@ci.stpaul.mn.us or call: 651-417-5625 (Source: District 10 Weekly Newsletter)
Please contact Contact Nurse Jenny if you want more information on any other health related topic at 651-419-1219 or Jennifer.martineau@spps.org.
