Stanley Avenue School Newsletter
Term 4, Week 10, 2023
Merry Christmas...
from everyone at Stanley Avenue School.
Have a safe and happy holiday with friends and whānau.
See you all again in 2024.
From the Principal's desk...
Kia ora tatou,
2023 has all but come and gone, as another year ticks over I continue to feel an increasing sense of pride seeing our young people striving to succeed and grow into fantastic human beings.
I am incredibly humbled and blessed to say that I am Principal of Stanley Ave and proud of what you as students have achieved in 2023. I’m not just talking about the academic gains…. yes… they are a key part of what we do here, however attitude, team work , having a growth mindset, and curiosity are important dispositions for learner success and life.
This is why we place such a big emphasis on our Learner Dimensions.
Striving to succeed- Whaia kia u, Manaakitanga- Team Player, Hauora- Wellbeing, and Inquirier- kaiwhiriwhiri.
Well done to all end of year prize winners and certificate recipients for their outstanding efforts, I know the teachers had some incredibly tough calls to make, which is just what we want and just goes to show the calibre of our students.
For the non recipients of the awards out there, don’t be discouraged, we can only give out a handful of certificates. Be proud of your achievements and continue your strive for success in 2024.
To our Stanley Ave Whānau we thank you for your support, generosity and commitment to our school. Life now seems to be more and more complex and fast paced. I’m a father of three kids myself, your parenting /and or care giver efforts are to be acknowledged.
To our Board of Trustees, Cassie, David, Lisa, Ben, Kelvin and Hayley your support, passion and determination for our students and school to be as successful as possible is greatly valued. The work you put in behind the scenes is incredible. I realise at times this involves a lot of family and work sacrifice. This is truly appreciated.
Finally, a huge thank you to my amazing Teaching Staff, Support Staff and Lead team. You consistently go above and beyond and are a talented group. The support and encouragement you show to each other on a daily basis is phenomenal. The sacrifices you make with the likes of your family life doesn’t go unnoticed. Thank you for being true to yourselves, and doing such an impressive job with our tamariki. Our students are lucky to have you!
To the entire Stanley Ave family have an amazing summer holiday, an enjoyable Festive season and an incredible new year. We look forward to continuing to take the school forward in 2024.
The following whakatauki I’m going to share with you I've shared before. I think it’s so important, and sums up our focus and drive at Stanley Ave School. In a fast paced, quickly changing world, personal connection can sometimes get blurred and lost. Strong supportive relationships and connections
are everything.
He aha to mea nui o te ao. What is the most important thing in the world?
He tangata, he tangata, he tangata. It is the people, the people, the people.
Ngā mihi nui
John Byers
Attendance Term 4
I would like to thank our School Community for their commitment and cooperation with student’s daily attendance this term. Whilst the end of year attendance statistics are not in yet, as of last Friday we were meeting all of Term 4's Ministry of Education’s Attendance 2024 targets. This is something to be really proud of and it will result in our best ever Term 4 attendance data for a number of years.
I am pleased to announce that Leroy Taranaki’s whānau have won the $100 Prezzy Card prize draw for students with over 90% attendance for Term 4. This prize pack also includes a family pass to the Te Aroha Pools, Well done!

Congratulations to the following students awarded the very prestigious End of Year certificates based on our learner Dimensions. Ka pai!
Year 8 Awards and Graduation 2023
On Thursday evening we held our 2023 Graduation Social, where our Year 7 and 8 Students and their family members danced the night away to celebrate our Class of 2023.
The Rec Centre was transformed into 'A night at the Grammys' complete with a Red Carpet and Paparazzi! A huge thank you to everyone involved but especially our Ruru Team and the graduation committee for the behind the scenes hard work and planning that go into an event like this. It is wonderful to see the students and families enjoy the spoils as our Year 8 leavers reflect on their time at Stanley Ave School, celebrate and make some final memories together.
Well done to our Valedictorian, Lydia Reddy, with a speech on behalf of her peers, that was a delightful trip down memory lane and very thought provoking.
Thank you again to the wonderful Tristan Thompson, who has been our photographer for the last 7 years and as always manages to go the extra mile and capture the highlights of the night beautifully.
Thank you also to the Te Aroha Race Course for the use of tables and chairs.
Congratulations to all of our Year 7/8 award winners.
