PCMS Weekly Update
May 9, 2025

Good Afternoon PCMS Families!
We wrapped up MAP testing this week — despite an unexpected power outage Wednesday morning that left us in the dark for a few hours! 😱 The students, however, thought it was one of the best days of middle school ever and were hoping for a repeat yesterday! 🤦♂️
After two weeks of testing and adjusted block schedules, we’re excited to return to our regular routine starting Monday. Thank you so much for your support during this time — from helping your child be prepared to scheduling appointments around testing — we truly appreciate all that you do!
As we head into the final stretch of the school year, we know summer is on everyone’s mind. That said, we still have important work ahead: final tests, projects, and class activities. Please continue encouraging your child to stay focused, engaged, and present each day. Your involvement and support make a big difference, and we’re so grateful for your partnership in helping our students finish the year strong!
Enjoy the beautiful weekend and GO PIRATES 🖤🧡!!
🎯 Pirates in Action
Here’s a quick recap of our Pirates in action from this past week.
Robotics: Robotics Team 8778Z went to the Robotics World Championships in Dallas last weekend. They were in the toughest division, so they went 3-8. They ended in about 60th place. We are super proud of them for making it to Worlds!
Choir: Tuesday night was their Spring Concert. They sang superb due to their diligent work on details. A huge thank you to Mr. Schofer for his hard work with our students!
Band: Thursday night we had our first band concert in our gym. The sound was great, students performed at a high level playing some challenging music from Star Wars, Jurassic Park and the Incredibles. Congrats to our band instructors as well for their work over the year with our students.
🧡 This Week's Character Dare
The CharacterDare is a heart workout, inviting students and adults to practice kindness, patience, and respect with themselves and others. These school-wide challenges encourage staff and students to put character into action, fostering personal growth and positively impacting school culture.
This Week's CharacterDare is: The Hangout (see below).
👕 Lost & Found
Our Lost and Found rack is exploding with over 100 items! We would love to get these items back to their owners as quickly as possible. Please ask your students to check the Lost and Found rack to see if anything might belong to them or parents are welcome to come in and check at any time!
After School gets out for the Summer, we will be donating any items left over to charity.
🔭 Our STEM Program Thanks the Wilson Family
Students Sterling, Langston, and Cortland Wilson raised $3,000 for PCMS STEM courses and projects. They volunteered at the 2025 Heartland Holiday Mini-Con and ran a raffle with all proceeds going straight to PCMS. This is the fourth year the Wilsons have raised funds for PCMS! We are so grateful to them for all the hard work they put into supporting our school's STEM program!
💻 Important Safety Alert: Social Media Trends and Student Device Misuse
Parents: We want to make you aware of dangerous trends currently circulating on TikTok and other social media platforms. Some students are being encouraged to insert metal objects or lead into electrical outlets or Chromebook ports, actions that can lead to sparks, fires, injuries, or damage to devices. These instances will be classified as intentional damage and will require the fee to be paid . These behaviors pose serious safety risks and will result in consequences if they occur at school. Please talk with your child about the dangers of these trends and the importance of using technology safely and responsibly. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact our office.
Here are a few articles about it.
Notes from the Nurse - Medication Pick-up
Prescription and over the counter (OTC) medications that have been brought to the school must be picked up prior to student dismissal at 11:50 on the last day of school. You will not be able to pick up any medication remaining in the health room after the students are dismissed. All medications remaining in the health room will be disposed of.
Prior to the last day of school, the health room will be open on regularly scheduled school days from 7:30 am to 2:40 pm. You may pick up your student’s medication during those hours.
Please contact the school nurse in advance:
If your student is attending summer school and you would like to have the medication available for your student during summer school.
If you do not plan to pick up your student’s remaining medication.
Incoming 8th Grade Students
Incoming 8th grade students are required to be compliant with immunizations prior to the start of the 2025-2026 school year. Proof of compliance for the Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis) and the MCV (meningococcal) vaccines must be received for all incoming 8th grade students. These vaccines are typically given around age 11. Plan ahead this summer and don’t wait until August! Appointments will fill up quickly as the new school year approaches! Contact your health care provider or the Platte County Health Department at www.plattecountyhealthdept.com.
Thankyou
