This Week at Andrews
NJHS Induction Ceremony
Last evening at the John J. McGlynn Auditorium, the NJHS celebrated a year of hard work, excellence, and achievement. Our current scholars received their membership pins, conducted the candle lighting ceremony, and discussed the five pillars of membership: Scholarship, Citizenship, Service, Leadership, and Character. We heard from the President of the organization, Ms. Celia Meagher, and our Vice President, Ms. Emily LaGrassa, regarding the importance of service and the community service role that being a member of the NJHS entails. Our celebration concluded with the induction of 47 seventh graders who are looking to take on leadership roles in our school community.
Deere Island exploration by 7B
Team 7B took a field trip to Deere Island and Revere Beach today. The students participated in a scavenger hunt that included learning about the Irish Famine, a wastewater facility, and real-life geographic features. Students then collected water samples at Revere Beach to further examine the bacteria present in the water, comparing them to the samples collected in the Mystic River earlier this week. Students played frisbee, soccer, played tag, built sand castles, or quietly read. Overall, Team 7B had a great day enjoying a local beach, learning, and unplugging for a few hours in the sun.
Learning Continues for Team 7B
Spring is the perfect time to learn about Ecology! This week, students in Ms. Zuklie's science class took a walk to the Mystic River to see how the topics they've been learning about in their Ecology Unit apply in real life. On their "ecology scavenger hunt," students searched for consumers, producers, decomposers, competition, and more. Ms. Zuklie's class will continue their investigation of ecology next week as they learn about invasive species.
Global Scholars Project Request
Did you know that on average, each teacher in America spends $610 on school supplies every year? Since 2019, it has gone up 24% due to inflation. This usually means that they are using their own money, which adds up every year. That is why I want to see if you can donate any extra or old school supplies. If you can tell your kid to put it in the box outside the main office. This will go to the end of the year and then after that it will be donated to the teachers for 2026. If it's in usable condition, please donate it.
Thank you from Jon Babcock

Color Run
On Wednesday, June 18th, our last half-day of school, we plan to host a fun activity for the students to end the year. Each student will have the opportunity to participate in a Color Run. We will provide each student with a white t-shirt, which they will have the chance to sign with Sharpie Markers as a keepsake. Every student will be provided a pair of sunglasses for eye protection during the run.
The product we purchased is Chameleon Colors, a colored powder that is non-toxic, environmentally safe, and vibrant. They use only high-quality, FD&C and D&C-approved materials.
The inhalation of any small particles could affect people with asthma (and those who have ever experienced reactive airway disease or other lung issues requiring an inhaler, short-term or long-term). The colors used in the Color Run are in powder form (corn starch), which could irritate the airways of someone with asthma and result in an asthma flare-up, particularly if they have a sensitivity to corn. People with asthma should be aware of the potential risks and use their best judgment to determine whether it will affect them; this should include consulting their GP to ensure it is safe for them to participate.
If you would like to opt your student out of this activity, please click here. Students who opt out of the event will still receive a t-shirt for signing and have an opportunity to participate in fun activities such as Gaga Ball, basketball or enjoy some independent reading outside.
If you are available to help make this event a success, please sign up to assist here. If you have not been CORI’d, please complete the attached CORI form and drop it and a copy of your license off at AMS or the High School Business office by June 13th.
