Robins K-8
September Newsletter
Hello Robins PreK-8 Families,
YES! We have successfully completed the month of August! Thank you for allowing us to partner with you in the academic success of your child. I thank you all for coming out to our “Back to School Nights” last month and now onto Parent/Techer Conferences next week. I am excited about what this year will bring for each of our students. We are preparing for our first diagnostics assessments that include iReady for reading and math, DIBELS for reading and letter and sound recognition, District Quarter 1 Benchmarks for reading and math. Please help us as each of these diagnostics/assessments are crucial to the learning and instruction that your child will receive. These assessments help us determine what are the best strategies to work with your child, what areas your child is strong in and areas that they need support to improve. Please ensure that they are here daily and on time with a full belly. As we complete these assessments, we will share individual student results at your parent/teacher conference or thereafter. We have shared with our students the Student Code of Conduct, Dress Code Policies and our PBIS “Roadrunner Rocks” expectations of being Safe, Responsible and Respectful. I encourage you to reach out to our fabulous PTO to support their efforts as they are the backbone to our success for a community moving forward to benefit all students, “It takes a village”. We welcome all parent volunteers for K-8 to schedule a time with their child’s teacher to help the teacher in class or out of class. We look forward to seeing you in two weeks at our Parent/Teacher conferences. Please remember that school on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday is dismissed for all Elementary and Middle School students at 11:45 a.m. Students will receive a full 30 minutes to consume their lunch. There will be no outside play on these days due to the limited instructional time. This month is “National Hispanic-Latino Heritage Month from September 15th- October 15th and “Dia de la Independencia” on September 16th. We are featuring some wonderful books on display in our library that celebrate the Hispanic culture and heritage. We invite you to come check them out. See you at Literacy Night on 9/26, mark your calendars.
REMINDERS:
· Pick-Up, please remember to park in the parking lots and not in the fire lane. Unattended vehicles or those in the fire lane cause obstructions and slow traffic.
· During drop-off, please have students exit the vehicle on the passenger side, so they avoid oncoming traffic.
· Please make sure your pick-up signs are in the window of your vehicle. This will make pick-up go much faster.
· Please do not drop off students at the front of the school. There is a large sign stating, “no drop off” and barriers to ensure student safety. Please full forward to drop off in the designated areas.

Counselor Corner
The counseling department received over 200 small group permission slips. Mrs. Sheava-Craig and Ms. Walters will be facilitating as many students as possible. Small groups will begin the week of September 9. You will be notified if your student will be in the first round of groups or placed on the wait list. The counseling department is pleased to be able to support your child in small groups.
Classroom lessons are focusing on community, teamwork, and cooperation. Your student’s have been having great discussion and participating in fun activities to reinforce these skills. The counseling department and classroom teachers have also been doing community circles. These circles support students by:
Building relationships: Community circles can help students build trusting relationships and a sense of belonging.
Improving communication: Circles can help students strengthen their communication skills.
Supporting equity: Circles can help support equity of voice and ensure that everyone feels heard.
National Junior Honor Society held their first meeting of the year last week. Members are gearing up for their required 40 hours of community service, to be completed by April 2025. They are also engaging in discussion for ideas on their collective community service project. We will keep you posted on how they decide to give back and support those in the Tucson community.
Remember, the counseling team is here to support you. Don’t hesitate to stop by or send us a message if you need anything.

Hello!
Robins K-8 students are making great choices on campus as evident of the over 700 Roadrunners Rock coupons given by the K-5 teachers and over 350 PBIS points in the middle school classrooms. Middle school students have the opportunity to spend these points on various items including mechanical pencils, books and lunch rewards with Principal Thomas or myself.
Continue to encourage your student to Be Kind and follow the three tenets of Robins K - 8:
- Be Safe
- Be Responsible
- Be Respectful
Thank You for All You Do!!

September is full of diagnostic assessments for all of our scholars, kindergarten to 8th grade!
This is a great time to remind your children that these results will be shared with you at conferences, so you need them to take the tests seriously and to try their very best. Let them know that these beginning of the year tests are to see where they are academically.
This means they may not know all the answers and that is OK! We don't want students to feel frustrated at not knowing all the answers, but this helps the school know what we need to work on with individual students.
The data that we collect in these beginning weeks will be shared with you at conferences, so you too will know what your children need to work on and the areas they are excelling in.
Thank you for your support!

Hello Robins Roadrunners!
I am Mrs. Sheava Craig, and I am the Student Success Specialist for your students. I am located in our Middle School, but I am available to support all K-8 students.
My #1 goal is to authentically connect with the students on our campus. I want them ALL to feel comfortable, safe, and supported. Sometimes that includes supporting the students’ family as well.
Some of the ways I can support are:
- Academic Check-in’s/Monitoring
- Access to community resources through the district and on our campus (Clothes, glasses, shoes, food, etc.)
- Social/Emotional support and Guidance
- Attendance encouragement and support
- Organization support and assistance for students
- And much more!
In a nutshell, if you or your student need any support or assistance at all, give me a call and I will do my best to assist you.
Please check out this link that will bring you to the TUSD Family Resource Centers Newsletter. This will show many resources and classes available to you!
The best way to get in touch with me is via email or through the front desk. I look forward to a great year of supporting you and your students!
Thank you!
Sheava Craig
Library Corner
Hello Scholars!
Welcome back! Thank you for returning your overdue books so that other students can borrow them. if you still have any missing books, please look for them and bring them in.
So, since it’s September, you know what that means. The Bookfair is coming! The Bookfair dates are from September 23rd to September 27th. As usual, we will be handing out reading tickets for those students that are caught reading. Fill it out and drop it off at the library to add them to the raffle. At the end of the fair, we will take your tickets and draw a name or two, or three, and those names we draw will win a prize!
It's an exciting month with the Literacy Night coming up as well. The bookfair will be open that night, so you and your parents can browse and buy books.
See you at the library!
