Grade 9
HHS 9th Grade Level Team meets weekly to focus primarily on attendance and students’ individual barriers to improve their attendance to school and their classes. We follow the guidelines and research from the Chicago University to support our students to stay On Track for their High School Graduation from the beginning in grade 9. Here is an interesting article on this topic: Why does attendance matter in High School?
If your student will be absent due to illness, a medical appointment, or any other reason, please call Mrs. Nuria Pence our attendance secretary or leave a message in our attendance line 503.844.1990.
Our 9th Grade Level Team is here to serve you and your students. If you have any questions or need support, please feel free to reach out to us!

CSE
As part of our health education program, our district provides age-appropriate, comprehensive sexuality education (CSE) for all students, K-12. All instruction is based on Oregon Law and the Oregon Health Education Standards and Performance Indicators adopted by the Oregon State Board of Education in December of 2016.
11th Grade Parents/Guardians
Our school is participating in the Student Health Survey (SHS), a survey sponsored by the Oregon Health Authority Public Health Division and the Oregon Department of Education on November 19, 2024 during advisory. The survey asks about health risk behaviors of students in grades 6, 8, and 11. The survey will be conducted online in the classroom and includes questions about student health and safety, mental and behavioral health, school climate and culture, and risk and protective factors. Please click the link below to review additional information about this survey.

FAFSA Parent Wizard
Almost 100% of students need to ask their parent(s) to provide information on their FAFSA form based on their dependency status. If your student is a dependent, they may need to report their parents’ information.
The FAFSA Parent Wizard is a tool that simplifies FAFSA form completion by helping families determine which parent(s) should contribute to a student's FAFSA form. This clarity can help families navigate this crucial step with confidence and ensure accurate information is submitted for the student's FAFSA form.
Check out the FAFSA Parent Wizard
FAFSA Videos: Who Is My Contributor?
A “contributor” is a person who needs to provide information on a student's FAFSA form, such as the student, their spouse, a biological or adoptive parent, or a stepparent.
To help students and their families identify who will provide information on the FAFSA form, we’ve created the following videos about contributors:
Visit StudentAid.gov for more information about the FAFSA process.

Financial Aid
All students and their families considering education after high school (college, university, community college, trade schools, cosmetology schools, etc) should fill out either the FAFSA or ORSAA as soon as possible when it opens in December.
The Federal and State Financial Aid application will open December 1 this year. As December approaches we will be providing more specific information.
For students with Social Security Numbers (even if parents do not have a social security number) you will complete the FAFSA - Students and Parents (even if no social security number) get your accounts set up now. It takes 1 to 3 days for accounts to verify so you are able to complete your application when it opens December 1 - Get your account set up here
For students without a social security number your will complete the ORSAA (State Aid) both students and parents will create an account with a personal email account - you can wait until the application open on December 1 to get and account (there are no verification delays like the FAFSA). You will complete your application after December 1 here

Reporting an Absence through ParentVue
Parents can now report full day absences via ParentVue. We are working on ways to enter partial day absences, but that is not yet available. With full day absence reporting, you can easily let us know when your child is absent for a full day.

Student Clothing Update:
We need your help! If a student’s clothing does not align with HSD’s Standards of Student Conduct (English, Spanish), the student will be asked to change their clothes.
For your reference, students may not wear anything advertising controlled or illegal substances.
- Students are not allowed to wear clothing advertising cannibus dispensaries (ex: "Cookies"), cannibus brands, marijuana leaves or paraphernalia.
- Clothing with the Playboy brand name or bunny logo are not allowed.
- Students may not wear clothing advertising brands of alcohol (for example Coors, Budweiser, etc).
Students are not allowed to wear clothing depicting weapons. This would include the brand SDL as they have a gun depicted in their logo design.
Students must wear shirts with straps to school.
Please refer to HSD’s Student Code of Conduct (English, Spanish) for more information. Specifically, “Students cannot wear violent language or images, images or language depicting drugs or alcohol (or any illegal item or activity), paraphernalia, or use of the same, or hate speech, profanity, pornography” (pg. 28).
