SCC Library Spotlight!
Enhanced Tools, Greater Impact: New Library System Supports Faculty & Student Success
A new library OneSearch system is coming SPRING 2025!
Maricopa Community College Libraries are transitioning to a new library system with enhanced features for a better search experience.
What is changing:
- The look: New branding and visuals
- Enhanced features: Links to recommended readings on related topics, book summaries and reviews, and a “look inside” feature
- Links to physical items from our library catalog: The library catalog will now be a part of OneSearch, not a separate website.
- Library Canvas modules: Library faculty will update modules that include OneSearch screenshots, OneSearch tips and research guides, and how-to videos to reflect the new system. If you have a library module in your course, please contact serene.rock@scottsdalecc.edu for an updated version in January.
What is not changing:
- The SCC Library homepage and website
- Links to specific databases
- Links to specific eBooks or eBook chapters
- Links to specific videos from library databases (i.e. Films on Demand, Academic Video Online)
We recommend that all faculty review course materials and look for content/links that will need to be updated, including:
- Library modules
- Links to OneSearch results
- Screenshots of OneSearch
- Videos that include OneSearch
We are confident that the new library system will provide a better research experience for everyone, and we appreciate your patience and support during this transition. If you have any questions or would like assistance updating your library content, please contact your SCC library faculty:

Information Literacy Instruction
Library Faculty are the information literacy (info lit) EXPERTS. Info lit is a discipline that focuses on finding, evaluating, utilizing, creating, and disseminating information in a variety of formats. It incorporates critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Instruction is customized to support the learning outcomes of an assignment or course. Instruction is available in-person, live online, and online on your time.
Information literacy instruction is not just for traditional research papers and projects. It can help students learn how to:
- prepare for a research project by developing a research strategy
- find information using library resources, Google, and GenAI
- identify, fact-check, and analyze various sources of information
- keep up with news and trends in their fields
- research careers
- use, share, and create information ethically and legally
