We can help you wish your child a happy birthday with a special message in our weekly video! The cost for a special slide in the video is $5.00. We can design the slide for you, or you may design it yourself. We can also display a Happy Birthday message for your child on our BVE PTA sign post in the front or back car line. The cost for this service is also $5.00.

This was a wonderful night of singing for these students and their families! The show got rave reviews! Thank you, Mrs. Boudreaux, for putting together another entertaining musical. It was a night enjoyed by all!!

Find your child's grade-level test/subject in the calendars below. It is essential that your child be on time (PRIOR TO 7:28) for school each day of testing to give him/her the best start to his/her day. Please get them to school early, and let us provide them breakfast!

Children can be silly and learn at the same time! Educators say working with sounds helps young students improve their reading skills. In preparation for this year’s 3rd grade reading assessment administered April 3-21, The Name Game is a fun activity for the whole family.

It was an honor to have our state's First Lady, Mrs. Elee Reeves, visit our students to read her new children's book Mississppi's Fred the Turtle. Each student in attendance received a copy of her book as well. THANK YOU, Mrs. Reeves!

It's already that time of year!!! This applies to parents with children whom they want to follow the teacher of their child's older sibling. If there is a teacher in the next grade level who taught your child's older sibling, your younger child may follow that teacher. We do our best to accommodate verified requests. Our BVE Student Council will be collecting peanut butter! Please see the attached flyer for the March of the Mayor's peanut butter collection in Gulfport. The Gulfport School District will collect peanut butter through March 15. Bayou View Elementary's pick up will be made on March 16th and be delivered to the downtown Gulfport fire station.

The year before last, Gulfport School District made the largest donation in the city. We encourage you to participate! Thank you for supporting this community event!

Students in grades 3-12 can join the MAAP Math Missions Madness Contest with PAPER and the Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) happening March 1-31 to help prepare for Mississippi Academic Assessment Program (MAAP) state assessment this spring.

To enter the contest, students should log on to PAPER, select “practice math games,” and then complete as many mission activities as possible between March 1-31. If a student gets stuck while working on a problem, he or she can take a screenshot of the problem(s) and share the screenshot(s) in a chat session with a live tutor for assistance. Eighteen prize boxes of PAPER swag will be given to students across the state who complete the most mission activities.

If you ever need help with your school work, there’s a live tutor available to help you 24/7 on Paper, if your child is enrolled in grades 3-5.

To get started with a tutoring session all you have to do is log in, ask your question, and they’ll give you a helping hand. To login:

Once you let a tutor know what you’re working on, you can expect them to ask you questions about what you’ve tried, what you understand, what you don’t understand, and from there they’ll talk you through the steps. Paper is a place for you to improve, and that doesn’t happen when you just look up answers.

The BVMS Student Council is hosting its 3rd Annual Spring Fling 5k and 1 mile Color Fun Run on Saturday, April 22, 2023. The 1 mile run will begin promptly at 8:00 a.m., and the 5k will begin promptly at 8:30 a.m.

Early registration will be open March 1-March 17 and is $25 for the 5k and $15 for the 1 mile color run. Early registration will include a t-shirt.

Late registration will be $30 for the 5k and $20 for the 1 mile color run. Extra t-shirts will be available for purchase the day of the race; however, there will be limited sizes and will be on a first-come, first-serve basis.

This is a family event, so there will be a bounce house/slide for children to jump on and enjoy until 12:00 p.m. that afternoon.

On the registration form, please check if you are interested in purchasing food from the event, so the BVMS Student Council can plan accordingly.

The best place for our students to be is in class. We have instructional gaps to close and need our students present, more than ever before. Please make sure that your child arrives to school on time each day. Try to keep check-outs to a minimal. If your child is absent, do your best to help them get caught up on missed work. Good attendance is crucial to student success! We strive for 97% attendance every month. Please review the school district attendance policy. If you have further questions/concerns, call the office for assistance.

We are excited to offer these snacks to students throughout the week. They especially love ice cream days. Students must pay with cash or have funds available in their lunch accounts. It is extremely helpful to our cafeteria cashier if students have exact change to pay for these snacks. As a reminder, BVE's pre-k program is operated by the United Way, not GSD. Completion of pre-registration is not a guarantee of acceptance to the program; therefore, United Way encourages families to have a backup plan for preschool. Also, after-school care is NOT provided for pre-K students at BVE.

Parents, please check your child's clothing before sending him/her to school in the morning. If a student's clothing is deemed inappropriate, you will be asked to bring a change of clothing to the school. Please pay attention to the length of your child's shorts...shorts cannot be any shorter than fingertip length when their arms are by their sides. Also, students are not allowed to have holes in their jeans/pants any higher than knee-level. We need your help with this!

STUDENTS WHO ARE OUT OF COMPLIANCE WITH THE DRESS CODE POLICY WILL BE PUT IN ISS (IN-SCHOOL-SUSPENSION) UNTIL A CHANGE OF CLOTHES IS BROUGHT BY A PARENT/GUARDIAN.

School is in session from 7:28 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.

ARRIVAL: The earliest students may begin arriving on campus is 7:00 a.m.; once on campus, students will go to the cafeteria to get breakfast or report directly to the classroom. This year, there will be a charge for breakfasts and lunches to students. Please complete an application for Free/Reduced Lunch. We will send these forms home with students. We encourage you to have your child get a breakfast since breakfast is such an important meal for our students. Our cafeteria crew provides a delicious breakfast!

IMPORTANT: All outside building doors are shut and locked at 7:28 a.m.; after this time, a student MUST be signed into the front office by an adult.

Announcements will begin promptly at 7:30 a.m. Students are tardy if they are not in the building by 7:28 a.m. AND seated in their respective classrooms by 7:30 a.m. We strongly encourage all students to be seated and ready to learn by 7:30 a.m. so as not to miss important information during announcements and not to disrupt others from listening as well.

DEPARTURE:

We dismiss kindergarten and first-grade car riders (those who do not have older siblings) to the front porch shortly before 2:30 p.m. If a student is not picked up by 2:45 p.m., he/she will be escorted by staff to School Plus, our after-school program. There is a charge for School Plus.

If you have any transportation changes to make for your child or children, please notify the office staff via e-mail by 12:00 p.m. Please e-mail Mrs. Leah McClain (Records Clerk) at leah.mcclain@gulfportschools.org OR Mrs. Alicia Lawrence (Secretary/Bookkeeper) at alicia.lawrence@gulfportschools.org. Transportation changes must be made and documented by the front office staff, not with the classroom teacher. We do not take transportation changes after 12:00 p.m., nor do we take them over the phone.

We do not allow student checkouts after 2:00 p.m. Please understand that parents who enter the office after 2:00 p.m. requesting to check out their child or children will be asked to get back into the carline for student pick-up. We also do not take checkouts over the phone to have students waiting for the parent to arrive in the office. Students are called to the office for checkouts only if an approved adult is present in the office BEFORE 2:00 p.m. to check them out. We thank you for your cooperation in helping us protect instructional time.

If it is raining at 2:15 p.m., all park-walkers will be considered car-riders and need to be picked up in their respective car-rider lines. We will send a message via School Status if this occurs. We appreciate your cooperation keeping students safe AND dry.

PARENTS, PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR CHILD HAS A CHANGE OF CLOTHES AT SCHOOL. Bathroom accidents are not the only spills that happen here at school. Although we do have a clothes closet, with gently used clothes, it is for emergencies. In the event that your child’s clothes get soiled here at school and he/she does not have a change of clothes, we will let them borrow clothes from the closet (if available). If you do not wish for your child to borrow clothes from the closet, please have a change of clothes at school and send a note to your child’s teacher stating that you do not wish for your child to borrow clothes from the closet.

Students across the grades use computers throughout the week to complete classwork and are familiar with the keyboard. You can help your child become more comfortable with typing! Students can practice at home with www.typing.com. All they have to do is sign up and practice! It is a fun and engaging way to learn the correct way to type!
