Happy Teacher Appreciation Week (continued from last week)!
You may not know or feel your impact every second, every minute, every hour or every day; but remember that YOU have the power to make a difference in someone's life. Through your words, your actions, your compassion, your accountability, your humor - all of it - impacts those around you.
While we could be counting down the days until summer, lets instead take the opportunity to positively impact at least one student each day we have left this year.

Being a teacher is not just a profession or WHAT you do - it's a calling that requires passion, dedication, empathy, and a commitment to making a positive impace on the lives of others. So the next time someone asks you what do you do, please tell them truth and don't sell yourselves short.
Thank you for all that you do for our students, staff, community, and each other!

Journalism Awards
Congratulations to 3 Journalism students for earning first place in the Women's Press Club of Indiana High School Journalism Contest. Winners were Natalie Walker (Editorial Writing), Ava Campbell (Columns/Blogs), and Claire Steinbrook.
Once the awards are decided, WPCI then takes all of the first place winners in every category and judges them again to determine the Best of the Best -- the top piece of journalism submitted to the contest overall.
We found out Friday that a feature story written (actually at the end of last school year) by current junior Claire Steinbrook was named Best of the Best for this year's contest. Claire received a cool certificate and a $100 check for the honor.
Thank you to Mike Klopfenstein for your outstanding leadership in our Journalism program.

ENL 3 Field Trip to the Preschool
The ENL 3 classes went on a field trip to the Pre-K building at PTEC. The SHS students read pre-k students a book they wrote to teach cultural empathy and participated in an activity that the students created to go with the book This was a great way to connect our community and for our students to be leaders in the classroom. Thank you to Kelly Harmon and Lisa Stanley for arranging this trip for our students.
Last PD of the 23-24 School Year
This past weekend marked the last PD session for the school year and it was a wonderful way to share the outstanding work done by our teaching staff. The new learning was provided 100% by our own teachers and what they took away from their action research this semester.
Choir Pops Concert
The SHS choirs did an amazing job at the Pops Concert. Students from all choir groups got on stage to sing popular music and show off their talent in front of their family and friends. There was even a special recognition for the Senior Choir members. Thank you to Jaclyn Richardson for a wonderful evening that showcased our talented students.
A Night of Engineering
The 2024 Night of Engineering was another wonderful display of the work students have done all year. Students were setup in the cafteria sharing their passion projects as members of our culinary class served hors d'euvres for family members and guests in attendance. The culmination of the night was the Mini-Movers delivered this year's cars to the children and their families. This is a great way of giving back to our community. A special thanks to Anthony Stanich and Mark Snodgrass for organizing this event and celebrating the students' hard work.
LAMP Final Meeting
The 4th and final meeting of our LAMP (Latino Advocacy & Mentorship Program) took place at SHS. The students celebrated their time together by completing a human knot activity and sharing ways to get involved at SHS through various clubs and activities. Thanks for Jamie Marshall, David Henriott, and Alicia Tasker, students were able to ejoy pizza, drinks, and snacks together. This program is a great bridge for incoming 8th graders and opportunity for our current juniors to take on leadership roles.
Perry Township Youth Track Night
The Perry Township youth programs came together at Cardinal Stadium for the 2024 youth track night. Students in grade K through 5 had the opportunity to run in various events in front of their parents, middle and high school athletes, coaches, and district and school administrators. Class of 1961 Spring Fling
The Southport High School class of 1961 gathered to celebrate their friendships and to share their fond memories of their dear Southport. About 50 members of the class and their spouses joined together for a "spring fling" at PTAC where they told stories, had lunch provided by the Perry Township catering department, and enjoyed laughing together. Most attendees wanted to talk to me about their favorite teachers and what they learned from being in their classes.... a big reminder of the impact that teacher make over 60 years later
SHS Prom
Erin Ancelet, Dawn Fowerbaugh, Austin Lundsford, and the Prom planning committee planned a beautiful event at the Indiana Roof Ballroom. The students dressed to impress with this year's theme of "A Night at the Oscars". The food was delicious, the music was oustanding, the student loved the photo booths, and a great time was had by all.
