Principals' Greeting
Greetings, Hiteon Community!
It is hard to believe we are now in May. This time of year, school is busy planning and participating in all the fun spring activities while working on the planning for the upcoming school year. It makes for an active time.
This year has brought its successes and challenges. Hiteon's community has worked to deal with all that presented itself with grace. The support and appreciation for our staff was evident during Teacher Appreciation Week. We were showered with kind words, flowers, goodies, and yummy food.
The Hiteon staff sends our Hiteon families a big "Hiteon Heart" thank you for all you did to make this week special. We are fortunate to be part of such a supportive community!
Wishing all the moms a special Mother's Day weekend!
Kind Regards,
Meghan Warren, Principal
Jenny Read-Emslie, Assistant Principal

Arrival Time at Hiteon
Recently more students are being dropped off before 7:45 am. We ask that students be dropped off in the morning between 7:45 to 8:00 am. Classes begin at 8:00 am.
Please do not send students to school before 7:45 am. We have no adult supervision until 7:45, and when students arrive, they go directly to their classrooms or get breakfast.
We appreciate your support on this to ensure the safety of all our students.

"I am", "I can" and "I love" Student Statements
Heidi Beaty and Laura Tomlinson, our Learning Specialist/Resource Teachers
recently wrapped up some work with our students focusing on positive self affirmations .
Our students, K-5, have helped decorate some of the windows at the lower wing by completing the statements "I am", "I can" and "I love". Their statements are sweet and sincere. If you're out getting some fresh air check out our windows near the bus/daycare area.

Hiteon's Biggest Fundraiser the 2022 Fun Run
Fun Run is almost here! This year we have committed to using some of the funds to install a Gaga Pit in the Hiteon playground. If we make our goal, it should be ready for the kids to enjoy when school starts in the fall.
Make sure to log on to Pledgestar to register your runner at pledgestar.com/hiteon. To meet our goal of $50,000 we need to average $100 per runner. We are currently about 1/5th of the way there!
Just think . . .
▾ If you asked 5 people to donate $20, you would raise $100!
▾ If you asked 5 people to pledge $1.00 per lap and you ran 20 laps, you would raise $100!
▾ If you asked 10 people to donate $10, you would raise $100!
▾ If you asked 10 people to pledge $0.50 per lap and you ran 20 laps, you would raise $100!
Parents, please help your children with this fundraiser. This is our big one! We have had a couple years where fundraising has been difficult. These funds will go toward bringing back all of our fun events like BINGO, movie night and family dance as well as continued support of our teachers in their classrooms.
Send your child to school on Thursday, May 12, ready to run!
They will receive their FREE tshirts early next week. Thank you sponsors!
Please make sure they wear them to school on Thursday.
We will be running outside rain or shine.
If on the day of the event it is not very nice outside, please pack an extra set of clothing and shoes for your child to change into.
Let's get a fun school wide POPCORN PARTY! If we get 50% of students registered on Pledgestar the school can earn a popcorn party. No donation is required, simply register your student. The more registrations we have the closer we get to a school wide POPCORN PARTY!!
Parents are welcome to come watch their kids run.
The course will be on the field behind the school. Look for the designated parent viewing area.
Entire grades will run together. Times are approximate.
When you arrive, please do not park in the lot nearest to the baseball field. The school has a standing rule of no parking except for teachers in that lot in order to keep it open for buses that come and go all day. Parking is available in the lot in front of the office, over by the fire station, along the neighborhood streets and the Southwest Hills Baptist Church on 135th Ave. has graciously offered to let us use their lot for overflow parking.

Beaverton Safe Routes to School Parent Surveys
It’s data collection time again for Beaverton’s Safe Routes to School program. The purpose of this program is to make walking and biking to school safe, convenient, and fun.
Parent’s and guardian’s input into how students travel to and from schools and their impression of the safety of the route is valuable as the city and county prioritize needed improvements for our roads.
The following links will take you to a district survey and will be combined with classroom tallies to give us a good picture of how students are getting to and from schools throughout the district.
The district survey will be open for responses for four weeks from May 1st until May 31st.
We appreciate your help in giving us information to make the Safe Routes to School program effective for all Beaverton School District students.

Student Survey Opens April 1st thru June 9th
Each year the District surveys students, staff, and parents to gather information for planning, program evaluation, and assessment of progress on the District's Strategic Plan.
The student survey takes about 20 minutes during the regular school day. The data gathered from the survey are anonymous; your child will not put his/her name or other identifying information on the survey. Like other surveys, results will be presented only about groups. No individual data will be reported.
Your child may skip questions or stop filling out the survey at any time. Refusing to participate or withdrawing from the survey does not affect your child's grades or class standing in any way. If you or your child does not want to participate, your child can read or do some other activity while his or her classmates complete the survey.
A copy of the survey is available from your child's school and is posted at
https://www.beaverton.k12.or.us/departments/accountability/research-reports
After reviewing the survey, if you do not want your child to participate, please notify the Hiteon office at 503-356-2140.
https://www.beaverton.k12.or.us/departments/accountability/research-reports
- Después de revisar la encuesta, si usted no quiere que su hijo participe, por favor notifique la oficina de Hiteon 503-356-2140.

Social Sciences Instructional Resources Review & Input
The Oregon Department of Education has adopted new standards for Social Sciences. The Beaverton School District is currently engaged in the second year in the Quality Curriculum Cycle to address these required changes. Beaverton Middle Schools implemented Social Sciences courses in the Fall of 2021 that are aligned to the 2021 Social Science Standards Integrated with Ethnic Studies. BSD High and Elementary Schools will be implementing Social Sciences courses in the Fall of 2022.
The district has conducted an extensive search for appropriate instructional resources to address the state standards, meet the BSD Learning Targets, and support meaningful and engaging Social Sciences learning for all of our students. As part of the adoption process, staff, students, families and the community are encouraged to view the instructional resources under consideration for our high schools and elementary schools and to provide input. Viewing/Input window closes May 8, 2022
