The Marlin Messenger
The Week of 08/28- 09/01
Message from the Principal
Hello Marlin Families, and happy first week of school! Hopefully, you are getting back into your routines as we are, and those early wakeups are becoming less and less painful. ๐ Appreciate all those who could come to Back to School Night (BTSN). For those who were not, some talking points below were covered in the Parent, Athletic, and Block F Meetings. We were happy to see over 80 parents get TB screened so that they can become volunteers! If you are interested in being a Sonora parent volunteer and missed the TB screening, there will be another on the Sonora Parent night, which has been moved back to September 5th from 6:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m.
Thank you to all the 1st-grade and 6th-grade families who waited patiently as we finalized hiring Ms. Book and Mr. Semper. We know it can be stressful when the teacher placement says unassigned, but we are happy to report we are now all official!
* Football, cross country, or volleyball all have practice this week. Please complete the permission click asap so they can practice. After practice, all students will be directed to the pull-through at the front of the school for pickup. No students will be allowed to go to any other area for pickup unless accompanied by parents, as there is no supervision in those other areas.
*Our jog-a-thon fundraiser officially kicked off on Friday; all 1st โ 6th-grade students should have packets with all the necessary information.
* All handbooks are uploaded to our website for your reference.
*Please continue to contact us if you have any questions or concerns.
Letโs have a great week!

Principal

Cultural Corner
Women in the United States were granted the right to vote on August 26, 1920. Thatโs a little over 100 years ago. Since that time, every president has published a proclamation recognizing August 26th as Womenโs Equality Day. Marlins, this week weโre asking: When were women granted the right to vote in the United States? Place your answer in a Cultural Corner box by Thursday for your chance to win a prize. Your Student Council members will select two names from a raffle during Friday morning announcements.

Traffic
We continue working on solutions to ease traffic and make pick-up and drop-off as safe as possible.
1. Cedar parking lot pick up and drop off Reminder.
Please be aware of the following safety concerns when picking up and dropping off students in the back lot on Cedar: Please avoid dropping your students off in the street and having them navigate traffic to get to campus. Also, please avoid u-turns in the middle of the road; this backs up traffic and causes a safety issue. Also, please donโt block the driveways with your cars; this inhibits students and staff from being able to cross safely.
2. Red Curbs Please do not park or drop off students on red curbs. It hinders visibility and inhibits our staff from safely supervising our students at pick-up and drop locations and crosswalks.
2. Please pick up all athletes in the front pull-through after sports practice. It makes it easier for coaches to track all students and ensure they reach their destination safely.
3. Please come to a complete stop at crosswalks if you see a staff member holding a sign-up. And always be on the lookout for children crossing the street and drive-throughs. Please remind your children to wait for the staff member to get halfway across the street before stepping into the street.
