October 31 - Halloween Costume - Dress up
Students,
On Thursday, October 31, for Halloween, you are encouraged to dress up in costumes and come to school. Students that come to school dressed up will also earn a PRIDE POINT for their grade.
Costumes must meet the following guidelines:
- No Weapons or violent accessories of any nature
- No gore/blood
- No masks
- Costumes must be dress code appropriate
- No ridiculous inflatable costumes that take up half the hallway and cover your whole self.
We want you to have fun and show off your costumes, but we are still at school, and it is still a learning environment. Thank you for making sure we can see your faces and for being safe during your fun dress-up day.

Chromebook Insurence Policy Change
Chromebooks are used in Orchard View Schools in K-12 classrooms. The computers have been vital to the new curriculums and keeping up with today’s ever changing learning needs. For several years, insurance has been offered to families to help cover non-malicious damages to chromebooks.
This year, a $10 chromebook insurance fee was required for students who are in OVMS and OVHS. The fee was originally required as these devices are taken home. At this time, the required fee is now OPTIONAL.
If you would like to have a refund of your $10 insurance payment, please contact your school office. The attached list details the list of charges for your student if there is damage done to their device. Following is a short sample of those charges for accidental damage (non-malicious). These three samples are chosen because they are the most common issues. Please see the attached letter for the complete list.

Red Club
Red Club is a fun after school group where students learn skills that will aid them in managing their emotions and behavior and in improving their school performance. Last year's activities included games, arts and crafts, hiking, and group discussions. Red Club meetings will be after school on Tuesdays, and a late bus will be available to provide transportation home. If your student is interested in joining Red Club, they can pick up a permission slip in the middle school office. If you have any questions, please contact Lilliana Duyck by emailing her at lilliana.duyck@orchardview.org.

Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA)
Our primary goal with FCA is to provide students and athletes with the opportunity to grow as individuals, bettering their community. Athletes and students who approach sports and life with the right attitude make a huge impact on those around them. Fellowship of Christian Athletes believes Jesus is the ultimate example of love, respect, and value. We strive to make this community better one relationship at a time.
On October 1st we will begin meeting during lunch for students who want to make a difference in their lives and the lives of others. We will dedicate time to knowing Jesus and learning how to apply it to our teams and school. Every student is welcome to attend.

Reporting and Supporting Each Other
Middle School is a fun and exciting time, but it is important that we take care of each other.
As social groups form, students will seek out attention and validation from one another. While this is typical of your age group, if these social relationships do not stay healthy, unnecessary drama can be created.
Before you act or before you speak, take a few breaths, and think, "who is this helping?"
Ask yourself:
1) Is this true?
2) is this helpful?
3) is this inspiring?
4) is this necessary?
5) is this kind?
If you can't say, "yes" to all of the above, then don't do or say whatever it is you are considering.
If you know about a situation between students filled with drama or emotions that you think could turn into an altercation, whether it be verbal or physical, please make sure to connect with an adult right away. Every adult in this building is trained to support you or to get you access to someone who can support you. Violence is never necessary.
At the start of every newsletter is the:
CLICK HERE for "I need to Speak to an Adult" form - this will get you help the quickest.
or
CLICK HERE for Okay2Say - this is completely anonymous (but doesn't get to principals as quickly).
Finally
We are here to help. Please make sure to follow the Hallway SOAR expectations and thank you for helping us make our school community safe!

Gator Recycling
OVMS gets money from this dumpster (by weight). We intend to use this money to fund things like our SOAR Store. Please consider dropping any paper-based recycling products in our bin.
