Dragon Community Newsletter #15
Denn John Middle School 24-25: November 18, 2024
Together! Always!
Dragon Community,
As we approach the Thanksgiving holiday, I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude to each of you for your support, dedication, and partnership in making our school community so special. We are truly thankful to be a family of Dragons — strong, kind, and committed to learning and growing together.
This time of year is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the many blessings we share. We hope you enjoy a peaceful and joyous holiday surrounded by loved ones. Please take care and stay safe during the break.
If time permits, we encourage our students to continue their daily reading habits over the holiday — even just a few minutes each day helps maintain their growth and excitement for learning.
Thank you again for all that you do. We look forward to welcoming our students back after the break, refreshed and ready for the next chapter of the school year.
The Dragon Community Weekly Newsletter will not be generated on Saturday, November 23. The newsletter will return on Saturday, November 30.
Wishing you and your family a very Happy Thanksgiving!

What's New?!
1. Discipline & Behavior
I am writing to inform you that we are taking proactive steps to ensure that all students at DJMS are learning in a safe, respectful, and supportive environment. As part of our continued commitment to fostering a positive school culture, I want to remind everyone that we have a zero-tolerance policy for behaviors that disrupt the learning environment or put the safety and well-being of our students at risk.
We take violations of the SDOC Student Code of Conduct very seriously. I will be strictly enforcing the code and holding all students accountable for their actions. This includes both in and outside of the classroom (when applicable), and we will not hesitate to take appropriate disciplinary action when necessary.
I ask for your support in reinforcing the importance of respectful behavior, kindness, and responsibility at home. It is critical that we all work together to ensure our students understand the expectations and consequences, and are held accountable for their actions.
Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns. Together, we can help create a positive and productive learning environment for all of our students.

At Home Support
1. Parent Portal Sign Up
The best way to know live data of your student's performance is through the parent portal! Here you can see grades, attendance, discipline referrals, teacher notes, and testing information in live time. For your reference, below you will find the attachment to sign up. I highly recommend this for all parents!
2. Discipline Support
Parents, I cannot stress the importance helping us educate our students on positive behavior. In some cases, middle school students are disrupting the learning environment causing for some students not to learn. I will not tolerate nor accept this behavior. DJMS is an environment where learning is required. We will continue to promote this. Please ensure our students hear this message from you as well.
3. Progress Reports- Qtr 2
PR2 will be published on Monday, Nov. 18 for viewing. Please monitor the academic performance of your student.
4. Attendance & Truancy
Parents, school is not optional! Each day, teachers have a schedule to teach state standards essential to grade promotion. If students cannot show mastery of the state standards, then grade retainment will be applied at the end of the school year. Bottom line, our students must be ready to transition to high school or the next grade level. I will not promote students to the next level if they have major academic gaps. Most of these gaps come from student absenteeism. So please do not be part of the problem rather than helping us with the problem!

Testing
FAST PM 2 Season is Here!
FAST PM 2 Testing Days- School Wide Shutdown
- Tuesday, December 3rd: ELA
- Thursday, December 5th: Math
Parents, student laptops/chargers are required on these days. Our testing operations strongly depend on students bringing their laptop/charger (fully charged) on testing days. Please help us achieve this goal! Furthermore, please help teach our students that the performance of PM 2 is critical. Many students are with the mindset that "PM 1 and PM 2 do not count." This is not true! Students with struggling scores will have immediate schedule changes in the spring semester to remove PE/Art/Elective and replaced with intensive math/reading.
Finally, please ensure the attendance on testing days. The FL DOE requires a 95% completion rate of all student testing. If this does not occur, DJMS will receive a school grade of "Incomplete". Our community, staff, and students do not deserve this grade.
