Extension to School Day for 2025-2026 School Year
We are sure that many of you have probably already heard details about the decision to extend the elementary school day by 20 minutes, starting with the 2025-26 school year. I wanted to reach out directly to explain how it will impact our community.
At Spring Trail, this change means that our classes will start 10 minutes earlier - at 8:20am and end 10 minutes later 2:40pm. This shift also means a change in the time our doors open for breakfast. Starting next year, we will serve breakfast at 7:50am and our first bell for entry to the building will ring at 8:15am. Our school day will begin promptly at 8:20am with teachers taking attendance at that time. I want to stress that this change will not happen until Aug. 11, 2025, the first day of the 2025-26 school year.
You likely are curious why U-46 has decided to make this shift. At six hours currently, U-46 has the shortest elementary school day in the state of Illinois. By extending the school day, all elementary students in grades kindergarten through 6th will have increased access to special classes that include PE, art, music, health, digital literacy, and science.
This extension will require shifts in the bus schedule. Morning pick-up times will be earlier and afternoon drop-off times will be later compared to this current school year. The exact schedules for each student who is eligible for transportation services will be available in Infinite Campus in August 2025 before the first day of school. Families who walk to school or rely on their own transportation or a carpool will need to make adjustments as well.
I will send reminders about this change as we get closer to the start of the 2025-26 school year. In the meantime, please review this list of Frequently Asked Questions and offer feedback or ask questions via the online customer service tool Let’s Talk.
I know that this change will impact our families, but I am confident it will have many benefits for our students and their educational experience. Thank you for your support.

Miss Asta's Class Creates Number Bonds
Our Kindergarten friends in Miss Asta's class were learning about number bonds. They worked together on decomposing numbers from 6-8 using story problems. They were asked to represent their equations with a picture, number bond, and number sentence. Students worked in groups of 3 and each member of the team had a job to complete. Based on the photos below, I believe the kids did a fantastic job working together to create their posters! Way to go friends! Keep decomposing numbers!
