Matthew Denny, Camille Casteel High School (CCHS) head baseball coach, was named a 2023 Regional Coach of the Year by the National High School Baseball Coaches Association (NHSBCA) and the 2023 American Baseball Coaches Association/ATEC Regional Coach of the Year.

"It's just a nice acknowledgment for the hard work and time you spend on trying to make the players and program better each day," Denny said. "I love everything about Casteel. I love our baseball community, our facilities, our admin team, my coaching staff, and especially my players. It's simply a special place to work and coach."

Hamilton sophomore Olivia Lu recently won gold in the Domestic International event and two silver medals in the Freshman A and Junior Women Solo Dance events in the 2023 American Artistic Roller-Skating National Championships held in Pennsylvania. This marks her fifth consecutive year as the national champion. Despite contending with older and more seasoned skaters, she emerged victorious among a large number of competitors and exhibited the skills she has honed over her 11-year journey in the competitive arena. Congratulations to Olivia for her outstanding achievements!

Elliana Peterson, an eighth grader from Basha Accelerated Middle School, earned a bronze medal at the USA Karate Nationals held in Richmond, VA on July 13-16. This marked her inaugural participation in the Nationals competition, where she competed in the 13-year-old novice Kata Division representing the Chandler Martial Arts Center.

Child Crisis Arizona and Chandler Unified School District will be holding a car seat safety event on August 18 from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. at Sanborn Elementary.

A certified car seat technician will provide instruction and information, and you will learn all about your children being safe while they ride in your car. Car seats will be provided

to participants that qualify immediately following the workshop.

This school year as Chandler Unified School District continues to make a conscious effort to focus on student well-being, the Counseling and Social Services Department has created an exciting opportunity for secondary students (grades 7-12).

Approximately 150 students will be invited to attend the Student Mental Health & Wellness Conference on Friday, September 1st. The conference will be hosted at the Chandler Public Safety Training Center from 10 a.m.-1:30 p.m. The keynote speaker will be Emma Benoit from the My Ascension documentary followed by breakout sessions.

These sessions will be delivered by community agencies such as Teen Lifeline, New Song Center for Grieving Children, BLOOM365, and Paper Cranes Healthcare. Please contact The Department of Counseling and Social Services for additional information, (480) 224-3718.

Up to 10 exceptional school, public, and college/university librarians will be selected to receive $5,000 in recognition of their service to their communities. They'll be honored during an award ceremony at the American Library Association's LibLearnX meeting in January 2024.

The Chandler CARE Center will be registering families for holiday assistance from August 28th – September 29th. The CARE Center provides Thanksgiving food boxes with the ingredients needed to prepare a holiday meal at home in November, and toys/gifts for children 0-18 in December.

Registration IS required to participate. Register in-person at the CARE Center (777 E. Galveston St, Chandler, AZ 85225). This is a one family per household only event, please bring:

• Picture ID
• Proof of address (Chandler Residents or CUSD Families ONLY)
• Proof of school enrollment (CUSD Parent Portal) for all school-age children
• Birth certificate for all children not in school

August is Cash for Classrooms Month, and Chandler Education Foundation is focused on raising money for CUSD schools. Funds raised support enrichment grants across the district. This year, the Foundation will continue to focus on supporting innovative learning opportunities for students, investing in school libraries, technology, and opportunities that pave the way to a student’s future. Every dollar raised makes a difference.

Information will be sent out to sites throughout the month of August. Online contributions can be made anytime at ChandlerCashForClassrooms.org. Donors who contribute $100 or more will receive a State Forty Eight shirt as a thank you for their generosity. An email for sizing will be sent out by the end of August, and shirts will be delivered to CUSD sites. CUSD staff may contribute through iVisions payroll deduction.

Many businesses support matches when donating to an approved 501(c)3. For more information, please contact the Foundation at ChandlerEdFoundation@cusd80.com.
