Learn about Buxton, IA

Visit our display of the traveling exhibit about Buxton, IA from the African American Museum in Cedar Rapids, IA. The exhibit includes pictures from Buxton, IA and a documentary by Iowa Public Television.


Buxton, IA was established in 1900 by the Consolidation Coal Company. The most notable thing about Buxton, IA is that there was a marked lack of racism while the town was operational. Stop in to learn more.


The exhibit will be on display until April 18, 2019.

Sign Up for a Cedar Rapids Public Library Card

During conferences stop by the Cedar Rapids Public Library booth and sign up for a library card. The booth will be located in the Prairie High School library.
