Principal's Message
Dear Adelante Selby Spanish Immersion families,
Welcome Back!
I hope everyone is well and excited to return to school on Wednesday, August 14th! Our teachers and staff have been back doing professional development, planning, and preparing the classroom for a wonderful school year! In the first few weeks of school we will be working on building relationships with our students with getting to know you activities, building community in the classroom, and teaching our students the routines, procedures, and expectations needed to be be successful at school.
Our school wide expectations are around students being: Safe, Respectful, Responsible, Friendly and Caring, and Focused and ready to learn. We will praise students for behaviors that are specifically around these expectations in the classrooms, hallways, playground, cafeteria, and Library. Students will be "caught" doing a good job and reinforced for following these school wide expectations with the Alebrije Reward Tickets(the students sometimes call them the "Golden" Tickets). Once weekly we will randomly draw names and announce winners of the corresponding bracelets as a further incentive for following school expectations.
It was great seeing everyone at MAZE day last Friday! I want to thank all of the Unidos PTO parent volunteers, community partners, and our staff for their help for a very successful MAZE day--great job! Approximately 560 families came through and were able to navigate the "maze" of tables and get their child(ren)'s schedule at the end so they know who their teacher is already! Additionally, I saw I lot of happy students and parents already wearing the Alebrije spirit wear shirts and hats and showing that Alebrije Pride and school spirit! There are still a few families that could not come to MAZE day(around 20 or so)and do not have their child(ren)'s schedule yet. If you have not come to the school yet: PLEASE come to the school between 7:30-4:00pm tomorrow(Tuesday) with your signed emergency card so you can get your child(ren)'s schedule and avoid a big line at the Office and the anxiety of not knowing where to go on the First Day of School.
We had a wonderful Ice Cream Social for our new TK and Kindergarten families yesterday (Sunday). The students got a chance to get to know the school and TK/Kinder playground area as well as make some new friends. Ideally, this opportunity to be on campus will alleviate the separation anxiety on the first day of school. MUCHAS GRACIAS to all the Unidos Volunteers, staff, and the teachers for being here.
I am looking for generous donations of scented hand sanitizer to spray kids hands before they get lunch in the cafeteria. The students particularly enjoy the "special" scented hand sanitizers, e.g., ruby grapefruit, lavender, lemon, orange, etc. Please drop off at the office labelled for "Director Warren" --Thanks!!
