April 17: Purple Up!
FLDOE invites you to “Purple Up!” on April 17, 2024, by wearing purple as a visible way to show support and thank military children. The color purple was chosen because it is the color that symbolizes all branches of the military. It is a combination of Army green, Coast Guard blue, Air Force blue, Marine Corps red and Navy blue. FLDOE encourages everyone in each of Florida’s local school districts to participate in events and celebrations that applaud the courage of military children and honor their hard work.
Article of the month
Following up on our candy quote from last week here is article on being a champion for our students.

April 8 Solar Eclipse Info
A total solar eclipse—an event that occurs when the moon passes between Earth and the sun—will occur on April 8th. Here in Northeast Florida, the eclipse will begin at approximately 1:48 PM, and will reach its maximum at 3:05 PM. Due to our geographic location, the sun will only be about 70% eclipsed at its maximum, which means the sun may only appear slightly dimmer than usual.
It is not safe to look directly at the sun without specialized eye protection for this event. Here are some safety tips for viewing the Total Solar Eclipse:
Only look at the sun through certified eclipse glasses which can be purchased online or a handheld solar viewer at any point during the eclipse. The following website provides information on selecting and using eclipse glasses: https://preventblindness.org/solar-eclipse-glasses/.
If you are planning to go outside during the event, you may be outside for an extended period. To prevent skin damage, sunscreen, a hat, and protective clothing are recommended.
