Weekly Update
November 18th - November 22nd

⛄ i-Ready Assessment begins Wednesday, December 4th ⛄
What's Happening This Week:
Welcome to another exciting week in our class! 🎉 We hope you all had a fantastic week and are ready for some fun learning adventures ahead. Let’s dive into what’s coming up next!
iReady Assessment: Students will take their mid-year diagnostic in math to assess their growth in the first half of the year. Please make sure your child is well-rested and eats a healthy breakfast. We'll test in short 15-minute increments starting Wednesday through next week Friday. Please ensure your child has headphones, as this helps them when listening to the questions and answers. 🎧
Phonics: This week, we'll focus on the long "o" sound when written with a silent (or "magic") e at the end. When following a single vowel and consonant at the end of a word, the silent e makes the vowel "say its name." Some suggested words to practice at home are under our Spelling list. For example, "mop" becomes "mope" when a magic e is added. 🌟
Reading: We’ve explored how informational texts give the reader information and facts about real topics, like people who really lived or events that really happened. This week, we will focus on a how-to text. It tells the reader “how-to” really do something and gives them the steps to complete to build anything! When reading with your child at home, encourage them to look at the cover, take a picture walk, and think of questions about the story. After reading, ask them to retell the characters, setting, problem, solution, and the sequence of events. This will help strengthen their comprehension skills! 📚
Math: We have successfully completed Unit 3 and have begun Unit 4, where we will continue to explore subtracting on a number line. I also sent out the Family Resources for this unit, and it would be a great way to connect with what your child is learning at home with math. ➖
Spelling Words: Here are the words we'll be focusing on this week:
home
broke
rode
those
spoke
hole
bone
close
how
under
